The Glenelly is in the village of Glen Ellen, 1/3rd of a mile from "downtown", in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. Built into a hillside, with rock walls, grandfather oaks, native landscaping and a more formal garden where the outdoor spa is located, the Glenelly offers a peaceful and relaxing country setting, and a home base close to all of the attractions in the area. Each room boasts a private entrance and opens onto verandas or decks with a view over the garden and of Sonoma Mountain. The style of the inn is European in feel, casual and comfortable. The inn was originally built in 1916 by a French family to serve guests who arrived via the railroad from the Bay Area to escape the summer fog. The refurbishment of it and opening as the Glenelly occured in the early 1980s. Current innkeeper/owner Kristi Hallamore Jeppesen purchased the inn with her mother, Ingrid, in 1990 and today runs the operation on her own, while living on the property with husband Carl and young sons Karl Christian (K.C.) and Frederik Hans (Freddie), dachshund Nuzzle and tortoiseshell Nutmeg. The inn is ideal for romantic getaways, but is also family friendly.
