A $60 million renovation project is in the works to modernize the airport terminal and boost security. When these renovations are completed, the airport services including baggage claims, car rentals, restaurants, and shops will be improved and connected to gates via covered walkways. Meanwhile, the renovations are not affecting passenger flow, so those using the Santa Barbara Airport need not worry about construction delaying them.
The Santa Barbara Airport accommodates over 800,000 passengers on a daily basis! Santa Barbara Airport is popular with surfers, and the airport is happy to accommodate surf boards up to nine feet in length without much hassle. Located about seven miles from Santa Barbara and even closer to some of the area's hottest beaches, Santa Barbara Airport is easily reached by taxi, car, shuttle bus, or public bus system. The airport even offers bike racks to those who want to travel using their own leg power.
Directions To Santa Barbara Airport
Santa Barbara Airport is simple to reach via the US-101. Coming from either the southeast (Los Angeles) or the northwest (San Francisco), drivers can connect with the US-101 heading north or south to Santa Barbara. Remember that the airport is a few miles north of the actual city of Santa Barbara.
The easiest route is to take the Fairview Avenue exit. Drivers will take the exit for Fairview Avenue and head west towards the ocean. Those coming from the north will go straight over the freeway and those from the south must bear right onto Fairview Avenue. Fairview Avenue then turns into Fowler Road and leads right to the airport.
Those coming from the south may find it easiest to take the UCSB Exit onto Highway 217 and exit onto Sandspit Road. Take a right at the stop sign and travel for half a mile. The airport terminal is on the left.
Alternately, drivers can take the South Los Cameros Road exit off US-101 and follow it south to Hollister Avenue. Turn right onto Hollister Avenue and turn right onto South Fairview Avenue which leads to Fowler Road and the airport. The airport signs are easy to follow, so finding the airport should not pose to be problematic.
Main Terminal
Santa Barbara Airport consists of one angular terminal that contains one full, lower floor, and then a partial upper floor. The downstairs houses check-in, ticketing, Gates 1 through 10, many services, one restaurant, the gift shop, security checkpoints, arrivals, and baggage claim. The upper floor really only has the restaurant and a cocktail lounge, so not every passenger will use the upstairs area.
Gates 1 through 10 handle all incoming and outgoing flights with America West, American Airlines, Delta, Horizon Air, and United. The airport offers non-stop flights to Denver, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, San Jose, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, and Seattle.
