Tenerife is the largest of eight islands found in the gorgeous island chain known as the Canary Islands. Thousands of tourists flock to the Canary Islands every month looking for quiet beaches, pristine ocean water, and warm temperatures. The capital city of Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is the second largest city in the island chain. Because Santa Cruz de Tenerife is home to the Canary Island's Parliament, it is a very busy tourist area, especially in the south where the large resorts are located. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is located on the northern most tip of the island and there are two airports serving air traffic. While Tenerife's northern airport (also known as Tenerife Los Rodeos Airport or Tenerife North Airport) sees few foreign tourists, the airport does see over four million domestic travelers every year. The airport is located a few miles southwest of San Cristobel de la Laguna sandwiched between the TF-5 Motorway and the TF-24 Motorway.
Recent renovations to the terminal show that the airport will soon surpass Tenerife South Airport as the island's most popular choice for travel. The new flight hall handles local air traffic making it simple for everyone to fly to neighboring islands. The airport also handles flights to Europe, particularly to Spain, and the United Kingdom.
Directions To Aeropuerto de Tenerife Norte
Recently, a motorway connecting Tenerife North Airport and the TF-5 Motorway was completed. The TF-5 Motorway connects Santa Cruz de Tenerife with Puerto de la Cruz. Passengers will find that the airport is now easy to reach coming either north or south on the TF-5. The TF-5 circles the island making it easy to reach either end of the island. There are a number of motorways that criss cross the island and all of them lead right to the TF-5.
In general, it is simple to reach the TF-5 from any area on the island. Drivers will watch for airport signs once they near San Cristobel de la Laguna and take the access road exit. This access road is four lanes wide and has two exits that lead right to the airport parking and terminal. Drivers should not worry about missing their exit because the second exit is available.
Main Terminal
The main terminal at Tenerife North Airport takes up four floors that are numbered P -1, P0, PE, and P1. P -1 houses the first aid area and access to the parking area automated payment machines (Cajero de Pago del Parking).
P0 houses check-in, ticket sales, security, departures and arrivals. Three eating areas and one store is located in this area. There are six gates on level P0 (Gate 1 , 2, 3a, 4, 4a, and 4b.) There are two information counters on this level and three banks.
PE houses the VIP lounge and one baggage claim. Few passengers will need to access this level.
Finally P1 is the area where the public may wait for incoming flights. On the south end of the building, gates 5 through 13 are located. These gates handle departures only. One more bank is located on this level.
Airlines served by Tenerife North Airport include Air Berlin, Air Europa, Air Nostrum Lineas, Aereas del Meditteraneo, Binter Canarias, Finnair, GB Airways, Iberia, Islas Airways, LTU International Airways, Ryanair, Santa Barbara, Spanair, and Thomson Fly.
