Located in a desert environment, Las Vegas weather and temperatures may be very different from what you are used to. The climate can be fiercely hot and dry, especially during the summer months. Plan to stay indoors during the day; most hotels, casinos, shops, and places of business are air conditioned for comfort. Drink plenty of water during the day to stay hydrated, and avoid drinking too much caffeine, which can pump necessary fluids from your system. Wear sunscreen when you venture out in the daytime, especially if you schedule an outdoor activity like golf or sightseeing. Sunglasses are a good idea, along with light-colored, lightweight clothing on hot days. Seek shelter or immediate medical help if you become overheated.

Be careful if you head out of the city limits to the open desert area. Objects are further away than they appear, which can be confusing to someone trying to gauge distance while hiking or taking a stroll. Dangerous insects, reptiles, and animals can be a problem, especially if you are by yourself or startle one of these creatures. Stay with a group and avoid their natural habitats. While outdoors in the heat, you can become dehydrated very quickly. Drink plenty of water and carry some with you whenever you spend time outdoors. Don’t forget the sunscreen, one of your best friends in Vegas.
