The best thing about this Courtyard Hotel is the excellent location, next to the Forbidden Castle.
The location and the people were great. The hotel is very cozy and gives us the impression of a typical place. The only major negative point is the sewer smell in the bathroom.
Welcoming and helpfull hotel people. Quaint interior, done with local flair. Location is excellent: walking distance to Forbidden City, pedestrian mall area and restaurants. Nice main street (don't miss the red wall/gate adjacent to beautiful park) - first time not easy to locate in ancient urban structure; once you do, easy to return to. Good choice of restaurants in the vicinity. Excellent Internet WIFI connection. Minor point: You might wanna ask for some extra towels, just in case the pouring rain starts and your bathroom turnes into a swimming pool.
The staff were very personable and friendly. The owner even helped carry our luggage to the taxi. The location is unbeatable--in a traditional "hutong" alley within ten minutes' walk of Tiananmen Sq., the Beijing metro and the Forbidden City, as well as a small, pleasant park and a line of Chinese restaurants and grocery stores. Staying here is a traveling experience for the only adventure or culture traveler, not for the demanding international tourist. The staff can speak good English for all but the most unusual or complex questions. The rooms are en suite, but a bit small (because of the huge Chinese marriage beds) and somewhat hard to negotiate, but this offers a unique opportunity to live in what was once a traditional Chinese. Internet service is not a strong point and there are few five-star services.
It has a lovely, relaxing and safe atmosphere in the middle of the hussle and bussle city life. Traditional bedroom interiors very nice. shower was not hot in the morning,
Location excellent 1 street away from forbidden city staff speak english and really friendly. Tradional courtyard hutong venue which is quaint and quiet.
Hotel very pure! A magnificent arrangement in city centre! All is remarkable! A tremendous hall of hotel in traditional style!
the best points: just a few bedrooms around a friendly patio, good to meet people, close to the Forbidden City, in old area, but not far from modern malls, friendly and helpful staff the bad: very disgusting smell in the private bathroom/toilette, poor breakfast
The building is very close to Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City. You just walk about 250 meters down the and turn right. Nachinzi street is pretty much going thru a revamp now and will look much better soon. Inside, courtyard is very clean and interesting. Staff is friendly. Laundry service is cheap. Area seems pretty safe. They did not change the sheets of our bed ($100 a night!) for 7 nights and once the room was not swept. This is unacceptable and you should ask them to change it and check to make sure. TV, a 32in plasma, has only chinese channels. Walls are a little bare. How about a shower curtain to separate the shower area and the toilet. Staff seemed somewhat inexperienced.
The place was reasonably clean, and the staff spoke English fairly well. If I had to describe the hotel by one word (after consulting the dictionary) I would choose "ramshackle". At least it is more descriptive of the establishment than the word "business hotel" which is on the sign. Staff should try to take a short walk outside the hotel, since they tend to misinform guests when it comes to the local area.
