Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff Dinner at the Mint restaurant was only ok
Breakfast was excellent, and the staff is amazing, particularly the concierge. Bathrooms have windows to the bedrooms above the tub... why?
Initial impressions was one of apprehension as I had to ask to be helped. Otherwise the staff was very helpful and displayed a level of professionalism Nothing
Location, reception staff Breakfast takes long, Indian tea which should be available take longer than everything same for Indian menu not available immediately
Location is perfect for the full Cape Town experience and staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. Rooms are very comfortable and clean and hotel felt very safe. They also have a sister beach club at Camps Bay which is complimentary and a fantastic added bonus to an already superb hotel and holiday experience
Very nice hotel in City Bowl Breakfast for a child was extra ZAR 75 although he hardly ate anything.
location, service, food
efficient staff, excellent breakfast und dinner we booked 4 twin rooms not double rooms
Great location, great service and free wi-fi througoht the hotel. Nothing.
Sense of security Slow lifts.
I was given a room which was very small. Hardly any space to keep the luggage. There were problems in the bathroom.Wash basin was blocked, There was a leak.Only on last day of my stay I was given an another room
Hotel has a modern decor and is clean. Breakfast is good and wifi worked well in the room. Price was reasonable for the quality. Bed was comfortable. The room was tiny but maybe I had a special price and got the small room. The room was prepay and I had to do a special credit card form (or wire transfer) to pay in advance.
The staff was very helpful. The breakfast was good. Service excellent. Good value for money. The WiFi in the room was down the entire time. Hotel did, however, make internet available in common room available. Bathroom satisfactory, but detail to cleaning would be helpful (grouting and shower areas).
it was good even though i thought , it was expensive. it was not made clear during booking that price goes up on weekdays breakfast was same everyday
Very friedly staff. The upgraded rooms are well appointed. City hotel, good for business. Excellent breakfast and room service
Very comfortable with gym facilities The shower in the studio apartment W503 messes on the floor when taking a shower.
very comfortable child friendly had to use two lifts to get to breakfast
Hotel was excellent, staff were very friendly an helpfull.Facillities were superb.Had a great time at the hotel
The location was very good and the rooms themselves were really nice. It felt like a spacious 1 bedroom/studio apartment and it was awesome to have a kitchen (although we intended to use it we didn't, the restaurants are great and affordable) The WIFI connection is very slow. This seems to be an issue in South Africa at times, but it was incredibly bad at times. It would take several minutes just to load e-mail. Also, there was no fitness center there. We were given cards to go to a local gym around the corner, we did that one day and then one of the security staff told me they had made a mistake and we weren't allowed. I asked other members at the front desk later, they had no idea of this policy change. In all, I was disappointed there was no fitness center there, felt a little misleading.
The friendly disposition of staff, especially Thembi and Zanele in restaurant. Mary from housekeeping none
We had a huge flat with an excellent view an the table mountain. Very well situated and good price ( we were there in august 2010).
Apartment with kitchen Everything nearby shuts down early, not the most inviting area to walk around after dark
Stunning building and proximity to many attractions in Cape Town, including Company Gardens, Parliament, St. George's Cathedral, Greenmarket Square, etc. Apartment-style is very suitable for family travel. En-suite bathrooms in each of the 2 bedrooms is very convenient and also private enough for the adults, as both were well separated. Guest Loo - what a luxury to have, and the hotel made no hassle of guests in the apartment with you. Staff were accommodating and kind. The state of cleanliness left much to be desired. You have all these great facilities, but when you travelling with small children, you do not want them rolling around on scuffed floors and dirty carpets, nor touching dirty chairs, etc. Throw-up from a previous stay was regurgitated by one of the many basins in the apartment, and never used again. That was disappointing. They do need some assistance with housekeeping, but I found that to be a problem in restaurants as well in Cape Town. Hope that it gets better. The facilities in this apartment do make up for the lack of attention to details, though.
Apartment hotel room was large and fully equipped for extended stays and had an excellent location close to eateries and clubs and added plus a great view of Table Mountain.
Rooms are beautiful with fantastic views. Gym access was great. WiFi was TERRIBLE!!!! If you need reliable internet access, this is not the place, the signal is poor, access is difficult and limited. If this was corrected, Madela Rhodes would be a superb hotel.
Superb quality accommodation in an ideal central location in Cape Town
Very convenient central location for sightseeing and shopping. Well equipped rooms - loads of space and comfortable furnishings. Good choice of places to eat nearby. Extremely helpful and courteous staff ... after check-out, we requested somewhere to store/re-pack luggage and to shower and change before a late evening flight, and we were kindly allowed this facility at no extra charge. Nothing.
The service that we received from all the staff was absolutely fantastic - from the gourmet breakfast to recommendations about what to do and see in Cape Town - you cannot fault any of the staff for their professionalism and passion about their guests and the city. The room was gorgeous, with a great view of Table mountain and we certainly felt safe whilst in and around the area. It was definately the little touches that made us feel so welcome, booking table mountain tickets, recommending a doctors to visit and sparing us the time to discuss our days are just few of the ways they made us feel special during our stay
Very pleasant, clean, comfortable a little unusal guest house with different decor. Staff very friendly and helpful at all times. Short distance to V&A waterfront and table mountain. Very good.
We very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely new hotel situated in the calm and colourful Rose Street. The suite was huge and spacious but very elegant and cosy. The sumptuous bathroom included an amazing bathtub and relaxing shower. Also very important: a wonderful kingsize bed. Very friendly staff and a big thanks to Ursula and Michel for their superb services, advice and chats, which made our stay unforgettable. Sidedish, the breakfast and lunch bar situated in the hotel, serves fingerlicking good stuff. Make sure you at least once order the french toast and the home made lemonade!
The decor was understated and unique, the rooms perfectly apppointed and the owners hospitable and extraordinarily helpful and charming.
The service was amazing, the rooms are extremely spacious and breakfast is delicious. The hotel is also very close to the Waterfront and the CBD.
Unlike big chain hotels, it has some personality. You are treated as a guest rather than just a customer.
Extremely helpful staff, great for providing recommendations and made us feel very welcome. I would happily recommend the Hotel.
great owners, style and big comfortable rooms a bit noisy
It was a superb in city experience NO!
Rooms were very spacious, clean and comfortable. The service we recieved was exceptional, very welcoming and accomodating. We were at the top floor, perhaps it could with a lift, but not too much of a problem.
The staff was friendly and service efficient. Food, great! Got an upgrade to a suit and could comfortly entertain family and friends.Central in town and close to all the hot spots. Thanx for a great stay.
we enjoyed the stay in the trailers on the roof for two nights, just not the place to take kids. No privacy. parties till late. Targeted for age group 18- 25 years age group. very loud and hectic. But a great experience. the bed was too small in the afro punk trailer . No privacy on the roof ,not very secure with anyone and everyone walking around the trailers and trying to look inside. We did not feel very safe. No safe to lock valuables away. Not notified in advance of parties and shows on the roof.
The Grand Daddy is a "funky" hotel housed in one of Cape Town's beautiful old buildings right on the hip Long Street, that gives the choice of staying in a normal modern hotel room or for the more adventurous - a genuine but refurbished Airstream caravan on the hotel's roof. We did both, but decided to swap the caravan for a proper room after one night because we wanted a real bathroom and because there was a funny smell that probably came from undrained water stuck under the camper. Apart from the caravan village, the roof also has a nice outdoor bar and a space that alternates as music stage, dinner party space and outdoor cinema showing great old American b/w movies. Very nice! Pretty good restaurant on ground floor. Friendly confusion A little TLC wouldn't hurt to bring standard back to what it probably was when the hotel opened. Tiles in caravan bathroom looked a bit sad. Bad smell outside caravan. Glass door in room made terrible racket when swung open or shut. Wireless internet was extremely slow and a waste of money. Breakfast was not included in price and seemed to cost differently every day. Windows in Sugar Daddy Suite faced brick wall full of bird poop. Would have expected a view for that price.
I liked the modern decor in the old building with the antique elevator, up to date modcoms, e.g. free internet via Apple computer. I also liked the originality of the themed Airstream trailers-I stayed in John & Yoko and enjoyed reading the books that were there etc. Food in The Cafe is good. A bit noisy in rooms above Daddy Cool..
Good location, nice breakfast bar, friendly staff, overall good value for money, would recommend it. The bar closed too early for City dwellers. 10.30 for last orders is not cosmopolitan.
Staff extremely helpful with good house keeping service. very comfy bed. Room 203 (superior) needs good layer of fresh paint and the bathroom mould and insect treatment. Also mini bar has to be defrosted and checked regulary- you are greeted with iceberg and rust rings from cans. It seems that the drinks were there for long, long time. Maybe this is some sort of South African thing but it's very difficult to get stil water in mini bar.
location relaxation / sports facilities would be a bonus
It was memorable and quirky The service was bad and the caravan decor is a little crappy. It is falling apart and not worth the r1000
Excellent location, walkable to most major attractions. Freindly staff no issues with early and late check in/out.
Perfect Hotel, good location. Situated on a very loud street where security is an issue. Surroundings (aka streets) are not well maintained. Be careful at night.
The hotel is well decorated but dirty, hairs in the bath etc. The location is shocking, it's extremely noisy (Sunday night clubs go till after 4am). We left after 1 night as we had no sleep, and were very disappointed with the hotel and how our problems were dealt with. Everything
Great location, great design, amazing rooms.....in other words: perfect! Breakfast is poor....you don't understand if the "breakfast included in room price" means continental breakfast or all inclusive, since the staff is handing a menu with prices.....another thing, we came to have breakfast an hour before the official breakfast end time and there was almost no food available....
Great view to Table mountain from the hotel room. What a way to wake up!A bit noisy from the street, but with earplugs, you won't notice.Restaurants, shops, museums etc in the neigbourhood.
The room (602) was absolutely beautiful with the most stunning view of Table Mountain. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The garage parking included in the price, was much appreciated and an added bonus when you compare to other hotels parking situations. windows urgently need a wash (on a more regular basis at least) and the shower door did not work (room 602) - a fault from the installers - which the hotel staff should have picked up on a walk around when building was finished. road was very noisy.
In trying to create a balance on all the above points, lack of sleep can lead to murder..... I loved every thing about the hotel, except the unassuming, hidden noise factor that takes over from 11pm -4am every day. Please sound proof the window area.
Helpful staff Noise ++++++ - the hotel is located above a nightclub, surrounded by bars and opposite a backpackers on the only party street in capetown. Do not stay here unless you intend to party and be the last in bed each night a sunrise!
Nice room and nice service A little bit noisy : the windows are too thin to block all the noise from Long Street which is noisy street at night
Contemporary style and location right in the centre. Breakfast is just superb with a special for their yogourt and cooked plates. Staff utterly friendly and accomodating. Cleaning ladies very helpfull. Being located on Long St with Bars and Restos everywhere, it is pretty noisy at night. However on the 5th floor it gets fine. Otherwise room was beautiful and overall hotel is great.
After having stayed at all category og hotels for 30 years; this is the most pleasant receprion staf ever. A bit noice from the street, bars and trafic. Hope some will be better after consruction work is finished
This hotel is not up to the general standard of most hotels in Cape Town. Service was very poor, the amenities did not work, the parking system for vehicles is highly problematic and essentially the hotel needs a major overhaul. The toliet was not working, The staff werfe rudhe
The situation of the hotel was very convenient as we were booked to travel to Johannesburg on the Shosholoza Meyl Premiere Class Train the next day. We needed to deliver our vehicle to the station very early in the morning.
Staff very helpfull and pleasant. Rooms a little more ventilated.
The people there were great enjoyed every bit of my stay
very central location in a decent clean hotel at a fantastic price.
The staff where nice
The location was excellent - right on the square next to the bustling market and just around the corner from the busy Long Street.
very close to city center and main sites. velue for money. very basic... the air condition makes loud noise.
Staff were extremely friendly from the gentleman who greeted me at the front door to the desk clerks. The room was comfortable. Great location right on the square, walking distance to hop on/off tour bus and other locations, restaurant was fantastic and great value. looks like some renovations have been done but carpets in room were dingy and stained. Signage out front says "and" (if I recall correctly) and no where does "three cities" appear so we were unsure if it was our hotel until we asked- made it difficult for drivers to find
Great facilities, central location, very friendly staff. A Lots of beggars outside after dark, kind of a sketchy area, but OK if you are in a group.
It was comfortable, well run and excellent location
The staff was wonderful. Cost was great. Location fantastic. Good breakfast options and transport options as well. Wifi here was terrible, though I found that to be true throughout South Africa. Also, the pub downstairs that offers room service....bad food options. Undercooked. Not enough. That was a bummer.
Location is excellent, staff were excellent, friendly and helpful My room was on the 4th floor and next to a staff room of some kind that was very noisey
We had a lovely stay and a super breakfast - we will visit again.
The restuarant Had to move rooms as what we booked was not wat we get. The price of a double is the same as single room cannot believe it
Yes, the toilets were dirty and the sheets as well. Very disgusting, wouldnt recommend to stay here.
great location and nice large room loved having breakfast included each morning and shopping right outside of door within walking distance and great concierge for planning excursions reservaton was made for 6 days per hotel staff and not 5 days per booking .com but staff took care of it
Excellent location, friendly staff who went out of their way to help. For the price I paid, brilliant
Very helpful staff, clean rooms and location ok Nothing
Enjoyable and fun nothing
Home away from home feeling. Breakfast was not kept warm enough and by the time I got to the table and began eating my food was cold.
price Room service takes very long
The staff are friendly and never failed to keep a smile on their faces. They are also exceedingly helpful. The fridge in our room is not working. Moreover, there was a half- hearted attempt to charge me for a can of coke and wine from the room which we did not consume. How could we? Warm coke?!
nothing dirty, poor, bad building, horrible food, under construction. It must not be appear on booking page. Photos falses. It should be broken down.
Good location as close to Long Street but within walking distance of the v&a waterfront, modern facilities (E.G. separate shower and bath in the bathroom and range of tv channels in English), friendly staff. Whilst the room itself was fine, my wife and I had asked for a double bed and instead we had a twin room. We were told it was a double and although the headboard was for a double bed it was two twin beds pushed together and made up as separate beds. Although twin beds give you more options, even if I am travelling alone on business, I would still request a double bed as no-one these days would choose to sleep in a single. Most modern hotels now have double beds with twin rooms also being two queen sized doubles.
Close proximity to cticc - the purpose of our trip was working at a Congress there. The most important thing to share is that my room (913) was located across from a nightclub/bar in the street adjacent and the noise was horrendous every night. It seems to be an "open air" bar, with no windows, so the noise must surely carry across to every hotel room on the side of the hotel where my room was located. I stayed at the hotel for 2 weeks (I had already moved rooms once because, despite the hotel's no smoking policy, the first room was clogged up with smoke). The nightclub noise lasted for the entire duration. Fortunately, I had earplugs with me but, even then, the noise was still loud and clear. It's just as well I was exhausted and able to get to sleep.
