Great service and location. Felt comfortable and was connected to a great bar and grill. We read a few negative reviews and questioned our decision but we were so pleased with The Gilmore. The hotel is historic and this is what gives it charm. It's exactly what visitors who are going to a rustic getaway like Ketchikan should expect. They also offered free taxi rides to the airport shuttle and nearby attractions. Can't beat the price, either!

Location is nice and the elevator to downtown is convenient. Staff was pleasant. Overall a nice stay and decent food at the restaurant. Exterior is a little rundown. The trash (cig butts, wrappers, etc) on the ground and stairs around the out buildings was never picked up. The restaurant was closed on Mother's Day but the front desk staff didn't even know that.
Friendly staff, spectacular views the tram was out of order which required a big uphill hike to get to and from downtown Ketchikan. This negates the excellent location. the tram had been out since September, with no mention on websites. Rooms are minimally furnished, TV and ice machines either didn't work or were problematic. Cleaniliness only adequate.
Location. It is on top of a hill and is quiet. The shuttle drivers were helpful. The front desk was helpful. There is a nice restaurant. Unfortunately, the tram to access the town hasn't worked in almost two years! It is a lot of money to spend for a room. There was hair on the bathroom floor, the tub didn't drain very well. I felt like I was paying a 5 star price for a 2 star quality hotel room. There are a lot of snooty customers who go there. The restaurant staff seemed overwhelmed for the type of product they were trying to put out.
We love the location of this hotel. We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past but the hotel is currently undergoing a management change and there were many problems. Food was overcooked, wilted salad was served, berries were served frozen, the staff could not answer any questions, staff did not show up to serve breakfast and did not send laundry out when dropped off. We hope that the management change will correct these problems.
We stayed at the Star Room which was a separate loft away from the main hotel. This was GREAT- away from the road and in the heart of Creek Street. It was very clean and comfortable. It was a warm day but they had a fan to circulate the air...which was enough. We could look out our window and see the bridge going across the creek. It was very spacious and even had a whirlpool tub. I can't think of anything we really didn't like.
Booked my stay thru priceline.com. Was charged by the hotel on top of what I paid thru the online service. Staff member I talked with to try an fix was very rude. Same staff member was very rude while checking into hotel.
Chest freezers and laundry were great amenities. The hotel looks really seedy and when we checked in the front desk person warned us not to prop the doors open to take a smoke (we are not smokers) or suspicious people might try to enter. He also said he had never checked anyone in before who had a reservation. But, contrary to this first impression, the hotel was fine, we didn't feel unsafe, and our room was clean.
