This hotel couldn't be in a better location, and the staff is very helpful. We especially enjoyed the breakfast delivery and very comfortable beds. The elevator does not go up to the third floor, which was somewhat annoying, and the hotel itself seems to suffer a strange shortage of pillows.
1. Room was spacious. 2. Continental breakfast brought to the room each morning. 3. Just a couple blocks from one of the main metro stations. 4. Manager took care of things promptly. 5. Good price / value. 6. Good heating. 7. WiFi reliable. 8. Very quiet (with a double window). 9. Bed comfortable. 10. I would certainly stay here again. 1. Had major problem one night with the new night watchman, but the manager straightened everything out the next morning, so shouldn't be an issue anymore for you. 2. Immediate neighborhood has many transient characters on the streets, (as do many hotels anywhere in this downtown Montréal I suppose). Not a problem for me, but maybe a concern for you. 3. Decor is a bit drab. 4. Bathtub needs some Draino to drain faster.
The location is great ~ within walking distance of many sites as well as being close to two metro stations. No difficulty finding places to eat or shopping in the vicinity. Continental breakfast every morning, delivered to the room, was a nice touch.
I have stayed here on multiple trips to Montreal. The hotel is very basic, but offers a simple, safe and convenient stay at a very reasonable rate. I don't visit a city to stay in my room, so the basics are all I need. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is just off St. Catherine and offers great access to the main Metro station. The surrounding neighborhood can seem a little rough at times, but this hotel seems very safe. Construction was going on on both sides of the hotel (Nov 2016), but once in my room I never heard any of it and it did not cause any problems.
The hotel was quiet despite being in a very active neighborhood. It is located within a couple of blocks to a major Metro hub that made travel around the city very quick and convenient. Supplementing the supplied coffee, bread and croissant breakfast (very fresh) with fruit and cheese from the market helped get us on our way quickly in the morning.
Helpfull staff; location Clean up the hallways
The room was more spacious than I thought it would be. The communal bottle of shampoo.
Good location near the Bus Terminal, and easy walk to the Metro, with a good rate. Rooms a bit small, although probably to be expected for a building of this age. One simple thing that could be done would be to have a trash can in the main room, rather than only one in the bathroom.
I think it is a good place for short visit to Montreal
location is great room was not clean beer cans and food left inside the draws
Todo muy bien,la gente de recepción muy atenta, habitación limpia, parking gratis, wifi y situado muy cerca del metro y del centro para recorrerlo a pie. Excelente relación calidad-precio. Muy recomendable
Helpful attitude of the staff at reception. The check-in time is too late specially those arriving in an early morning flight.
Very Clean and large rooms internet not so great
Location and affordability.
location...and place was clean def.have to improve breakfast (croisants from a plastic box by a dozen),central aircond.in my case a minus (my basement room was like a walk-in cooler...) - two reasons for my "poor" ratings for "comfort" and "value for money"...was maybe better on upper floors, but don't take a basement room !...also had to have thick curtains (there was no other curtain) always closed (people coming and leaving parking lot)...
some staff members were very helpful and friendly others were not. The breakfast is really not worth mentioning.
Nothing special... you can spend a night there ... there are better places around The breakfast was very poor
The hotel was well located to reach the city. The price was impressingly low. The people at front desk were not really friendly, neither the maiden in the breakfast room. lttle attention was payed to the technical situation in the rooms: curtains were torn down, hot water in the sink made problems.
I was able to check into the rooms at 10am with no problem or extra cost.. great location, and quite They need an ice machine, but thats ok
It is basic - but good for anyone priceconscious and not staying long. The room was small, the bed was not comfortable, and we had hair in our tub (which is too abd because the tub was jetted!) but the staff was friendly. Overall, it was an ok experience. The beds were not so comfortable....and the room a bit small. Cleaning was a tiny bit questionable.
location 200 meters from central station and metro, peaceful street, noise from other rooms, cleanless of the room was not a perfect,
The location. Central! The room wasn't heated. We were freezing all night lobng!
very loud air condition
access to bus terminal and trains
the rooms, the cleanliness, environment, the hotel woth what i paid to stay there. if i ever have 2 go back to montreal,i'll stay at this hotel again, like it
Great location Wall colors, dark rooms, cigarettes marks in sheets and doors locks insures.
I liked the ambiance/decor of the room.
We liked this hotel. Inside look much better than outside. One block from village. Walking distance to everything you want to see. Also it was deli right on first floor and pharmacy a block away. Breakfast very simple but delicious :) Room was a little bit small. It was cold in room. Get some warm clothes to sleep or if you gonna hang out in room sometimes:)
The location. That's it. It was dirty - stains on linens, dust everywhere, carpet so dirty it looked like it has never been vacuumed. We were given a double bed not the queen size advertised when we booked. No breakfast, not that we would have trusted the food there anyway. TV didn't work, no A/C as advertised, very noisy - the windows didn't stop much street noise. This place should be called a hostel, calling it a hotel is an insult to the word hotel. No free parking either, so we had to pay for parking on top of the crazy rate we had to pay as it was during the F1 face in Montreal. Smelled like smoke even though the room was non-smoking. No staff when we wanted to check out so we had to leave the key behind the counter since we had to go. All in all AVOID THIS DIVE.
The location and staff were friendly The restaurant was bad. They put out a breakfast buffet that looks free and if you don't have a coupon they charge you after you get food about twenty bucks for sub par stuff. It is an obvious scam and when I complained they just shrugged their shoulders. Not cool.
Love the convenience of the Metro and Food Court under the hotel. Also walking distance to Old Town without the constant foot traffic. Beautiful little park across the street- walking distance to all the action in Motreal Parking is $19.00 in and out a day; internet wifi while free, tend to drop connectivity.
Just like in the movie, I end up at the Gouverneur Hotel over and over and over. It's always my hotel of choice when in Montreal! Nothing!
carpets smell, rooms are dirty serious updates need to happen
Inexpensive, easy access to everything, parking was very easy, grocery store close dated room, not the best area of town, concierge was almost never there
I loved the location in terms of being right in the middle of all the action. We went for the Jazz Festival and couldn't have been any closer to all of the events. We also loved having the restaurants and stores right next door. The room was a good size and had the regular amenities such as hair dryer, iron, and lots of room to hang up clothing in the closet. I would absolutely stay here again. What I didn't like was that the pool was closed from 12-5 everyday. Why? Bizarre?! Those are the hours we really wanted to swim. We couldn't bring any drinks into the pool area and they wouldn't allow you to leave with the towel! So we dripped all the way back to the room. Were also HATED the bed. Very hard and uncomfortable and only two very tiny flat pillows for a king size bed. Definitely needs updating.
This was my first time staying at the Gouvernour Hotel. The staff was very friendly throughout our stay and always greeted us with a smile. The breakfast buffet was actually really good. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to the bars if you want to go out at night, and close to multiple restaurants. I was not happy with the air conditioning in the room. The thermostat did not appear to regulate the temperature well enough. It would go from way too hot, to way too cold. I also did not realize that the only rooms that get a safe are the "business" rooms, and not every room. I did not want to leave my passport lying around, along with other valuables, so I ended up carrying them with me wherever I went in my messenger bag. I would have preferred keeping it locked in a safe. I'm used to there being a safe in a hotel room. Other than that, everything else was pretty good at this hotel. I wish the parking fee was not so expensive, too, but at least you can come and go as many times as you want. ($21 a day for parking).
Its a hotel chain in Quebec and even though in the right area for my stay it hasnt been updated in years. The rooms need a face lift and the bathrooms are small --wall paper peeling off -- electrical plugs hidden by the beds, none on the bedside table, -- no small fridge, i was there for 6nights -- great flatscreen, but all furniture is old -- slept on a bed that i could feel the coils in my back, upgrade the mattress
I've been coming here for years and the hotel is starting to show it's age. Rooms need to be modernized. Parking lot is difficult to park in as spaces are really tight. Some front desk staff including the manager are not very accommodating. No wake up call given when asked. Pool was unavailable as group took it over. Restaurant staff was nice.
Location provided easy access to subway Coffee machine in room Free wifi in room Cleanliness Cost of breakfast Dated decor
Staff was very accomadating and the rooms were well kept. The soap and talls were changed daily. The room I stayed in had no microwave, refrigorator, and the continental breakfast was limiting. Not big deals but notable
The staff at the front desk were all very knowledgeable about the area and very eager to help us navigate around the area. It was around 20-30 minute walk to Old Montreal. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops, small bars around the area. Just a matter of a short walk away from many of the historic sites around the area. Be had a very nice stay here. Enjoyed our selves Rooms are a little too small, but are very clean. I didn't mind the continental breakfast but would have preferred having a sit down breakfast, with eggs etc. Considering they have a restaurant inside, it might be something they might consider in the future. Other than that, no really big complaints. Had a very enjoyable dinner at their joining restaurant.
The very helpful staff and its position close to the Latin quarter No
the space hosekeeping is not done properly when you are already a resident.ex.don't change dirty glasses, if dirty blanket,
The second day we did not get the full breakfast - answer from the desklady was only a short "I know, we didn't get the things on time, so some rooms didn't get Croissant" ... not what I was expecting!
The location was amazing and the hotel itself was quaint. The rooms were clean and very nice. The breakfast is delivered to your room in a basket. The breakfast is just muffins and yougurts etc but it is a nice touch. I ended up paying 170 dollars for one night for myself and my boyfriend. We are students and find that way too expensive for this hotel. I don't think I would ever stay there again because of the price, but it was the best location. When we went the second night to a different hotel, we kept taking the subway back to the first hotel just for the neighborhood. Our second hotel though was a 3 star hotel also and cost less than 100 though. Also, the hotel staff were snobby and not helpful. We arrived many hours before check in because thats when our bus got in. We asked to eat a sandwhich we brought in their sitting area and they said "no its only for guests" and overall just snobby. Wonderful rooms though.
The location was very convenient, 5 meters from Berry/UQAM subway station.
The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast basket brought to our door was a nice and convinient way to have an early breakfast.
All staff extremely helpful...taxis, bus routes, etc. Our room was badly in need of refreshing. Bedspread and carpet pretty bad.
Very friendly staff, nice to get breakfast delivered in the morning. Free internet was great, really helped us book ahead for the rest of our holiday.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had along chat with a gentleman who was possibly an owner. Ideal for a business trip or a short break. The hotel had character. 5 minutes taxi ride from conference center. I would have liked a hot breakfast.
very friendly people, good breakfast, refrigerator, close to metro and supermarket, washed our clothes without taking money... if you stay there, you feel like at home and wish to come back when you have to leave
Front desk staff was wonderful, EXCELLENT location in Montreal's gay village.
I liked the cleanliness of the room as well the very friendly staff. They were very obliging what I wouldn't expect for the cheap price. And it was very central.
The staff are very friendly and accomadating. Bare light bulbs in ceiling fixtures.
We were very well treated by the staff, who went out of their way to accommodate us. Of course it is an older building. Having to climb stairs to get to the hotel. Also access by car was complicated due to the closure of this part of St. Catherine street during the time of our stay.
nice breakfast weird smell
Economic hotel in the centre of Montreal, with subway, train and coaches station very close. Staff very kind and helpfull and room good.
Personnel was very helpful and friendly. The room was way too small, had no window which we didn't know when we booked the hotel, because on the site it showed only rooms with window. The bed was too small for 2 persons, was more a big single person bed. Smell and dirty carpets. Bathroom (including toilet) was about 1 meter by 1 meter.
Central location, friendly staff, and a comfortable-ish bed. It's visibly a cheap--a very cheap--place, the sort that offers hourly rates and offers free porn (gay and straight!). This didn't actually negatively impact our experience, but its "seediness" might throw some off. But, honestly, it was a lot of fun.
Good staff Dark room overlooking yard
A very friendly staff and great location
It was nice and clean and quit the workers were grate and frendly and when I wanted help to find places they were so grate and I speak english and they did a good job for me to understand what they were saying and that is rare in montreal but your people were grate and thank you for that ,, that made my stay much easer and felt welcome I will surely stay there again any time I go back to montreal
Parking free and was near to town facilities/attractions No tea/coffee facilities provided. Area poor/seedy. Hotel not really up to standard for price.
The hotel is quaint and centrally located. It provides easy access to major amenities and is close to shopping and dining areas of the city.
Clean, comfortable rooms with full baths. Staff very helpful and friendly. Free parking a definite plus. One block from major subway hub station. Excellent supermarket nearby. Modest breakfast. Neighborhood may be considered by some guests as less than desirable.
Value for money Too tiny room
The location of the hotel, close to Quartier Latin and Vieux Montreal, is excellent. The rooms have recently been renovated and are kept very clean. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast room was crowded.
Extremely helpful staff and a very attractive interior
Very friendly and helpful staff, a nice, simple hotel, close to the city centre. The room was bit stuffy and could have used a bit more ventilation, however it was not bad otherwise.
Superb location, nice staff and a lovely building. Nope
Nice host and hostess, excellent location clean and cozy room, fantastic breakfast! All one can expect for a real B&B. defenitelty will come back!!
The friendly, helpful host and amazing breakfast! No
Centrally located, free parking, comfortable room. Looked like a great breakfast--we unfortunately had plans to eat breakfast elsewhere with our daughter. Very nice staff. No.
Natalie -- the warm and welcoming owner, along with her truly outstanding breakfasts, which are worthy of a high-end restaurant. Also: the hotel's proximity to a major Metro station (a block away), the riverfront, and the Plateau bars and restaurants.
The hotel staff was very helpful, willing to help me in everything: calling a taxi, giving me directions about places, the subway.. Free internet conection. Good beds. The webpage says that every room has plasma tv, but mine wasn´t. Internet conection at floor 4, room 405, was really bad.
The staff of the hotel was very nice young people, they were ready and able to help me all the time, to my surprise they speak different languages, like Spanish, Germany, Arabic, French, English they try to help every body. The locations was great, the room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was not a buffet, it was simple continental breakfast, the same that i take at home. For the price that i paid i received a wonderful services more that i expected.
The hotel staff was great and always willing to help, we had all the necessary information and directions for our city trip. Room was clean and big enough . The location was really perfect since we were in latin quaters near the central bus and subway station and near st denis and st catherine street.
Staff mostly helopful and friendly. Room basic but clean and has what you need. After midnight, someone got into the hotel and was knocking at my door and refused to go away. I called the front desk and the individual was immediately ejected. Apparently this individual believed my room was someone else's. It was through the negligence of the person at the front desk that this individual even got into the building.
The hotel staff where amazing! Very friendly and had very interesting information about the city. The hotel was clean and the room was awesome for the cost. Really amazing experience! Would come here again without question.
charming character, great location, right next to the subway station and the night life. Breakfast in the morning was great, and the host was friendly and helpful. Overall a terrific stay. No soaps were provided in the bathroom. Rooms were on the smaller side, big enough for me, but some people may be looking for more for ---$ a night
Nice and clean great owner and really good price near everything Nothing
The owner's hands-on approach to managing the property, along with his friendly and helpful attitude. No
Tidy, comfortable, and kind host We have to pay for parking.
Nothing the pictures at the web site is a big liar. The only good point I can tell is its location near downtown. All! The bedrooms are horrible you can not use the roof fan because on every room sounds all night long. Rooms are dirty and this hotel did not provide even soap or towels in your room, you have to bring all your personal stuff to stay there and be prepared to share showers and toilettes with other guests. This is a really expensive hostel not a hotel. I will not give it not even 1 star.
Yes was good stay. More like a hostel with private rooms than hotel.
Very centrally located just one block from the main busstation Bar in the basement with loud music late, showers on 1st floor out of order
The location is great for walking/exploring Montreal, and it's close to the subway and Greyhound station. Late check-in was no problem. Room advertised as about $50/night came to $70 in total (tax + credit card fee, etc.). Very no frills. No towels, had to ask for toilet paper. Booking a "private shower" means only private shower, not private toilet too. But they had a cancellation and let me have the full bathroom room.
Only the location. Everything, not comfortable, dirty washroom, small room for couple,no room for luggage, bed service, dirty towels, noisy from outside, very old furnitures if there is any, small bed for couple, the staff dose not speak english, not welcoming, the smell is terrible, the ceilling ventilator makes a terrible noise so you can't use it.
i liked only location pretty centrally smelly, very old fashion,
Good location. Used syrettes in my room.
There was nothing redeemable of this location. The hotel was filthy, in poor repair, with very unfortunate clientele, and only three washrooms for over 30 bedrooms.
Nothing, everything was bad, especially air conditioning. There was shared bathroom and toilet, dirty bed and mattresses. I leave there before the end of my lease. All services.
nothing booked a room with a private shower but was not given one on check in. staff very difficult to deal with but did get a room with a shower in the end.if paying by credit card they will add another ten percent to the bill which is not stated on the website. rooms and beds smelled a bit. we had no experience with bed bugs as many others have but we did find a mouse trap under the bed. the location is ok if you want to be near the centre of montreal but it will be very noisy at night and in summer you need the windows open because there is no form of cooling unless you are lucky enough to get a room with a working fan.
Wonderful patio for breakfast. Delicious full breakfast with fresh baked croissants. Very friendly staff. Room was small, but clean and adequate for our needs. Location is perfect--and easy walk from everything and right on the subway. Would have preferred if the shared bathroom was on the same floor as our room, but it wasn't a big deal.
It was super homey and comfortable....the staff was great and the pancakes were amazing!!!
The room was clean, comfortable and a good size. The breakfast was wonderful and filling. All the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. parking was a bit tricky but that's not the fault of the hotel.
Great location, friendly, clean, stylish and comfortable with a great breakfast No, we had the last room available with shared bath up one flight of stairs. We will definitely go again but get a different room. Definitely the worst room in a wonderful place.
