ROOM NO HOT BREAKFAST
The location was handy. Easy access to the freeway without too much road noise. The staff was friendly. The room was practically bare. Not even a hair dryer. The beds and pillows were hard, uncomfortable. Small tv with very little selection. Breakfast was bare as well. Packaged pastry. The carpeting was tread worn and the lobby smelled. A one star.
Clean and convenient. Heating / AC unit barely worked.
Possibly prostration going on there? Very strong smells throughout building and when bathroom vent used.
The location was good and quiet. Over all the area was clean. It was easy to find and right of the fwy. The cleanliness in the room was lacking. There was a pair of very large earrings hanging in the shower w women's hair attached. GROSS. One of the outlets completely came off the wall when we unplugged our phones.
Staff were phenomenal! A++ Both cleaning and ladies working the morning and evening shift. They were friendly and very helpful - NO bugs in the room...great job. (I have pixs if you need copy) - elevator broken. Carried luggage up to 3rd floor - did not have breakfast as advertised - no ice - burner in my room broken - faucet in 2nd room leaking H2O - wi-fi spotty - chair had suspicious white stains
Plenty of room. TV worked well No ice in the room and couldn't get any in the building. It took a half hour to get dishes and stuff. The counter top was sticky when we arrived. Worst part - this hotel was advertised as having breakfast. That was a joke.
The hotel was right where I needed it to be. It was easy to find and quiet. There was no bar soap in the room, no blow dryer and worst of all there was no coffee maker/coffee in the room. The front desk said I could check one out, but I was just ready to go. No lobby coffee either. kind of a let morning down!

We enjoyed having a full kitchen People upstairs were EXTREMELY loud from 9pm to almost 3am.
The location was wonderful Incredibly poor service and unclean
Clean rooms, well maintained. Hotel and Bistro staff during all shifts is very attentive and asking how else I can be helped. Very pleasant and professional experience - am a frequent guest there and has always been a good experience.
Nice hotel, friendly staff, comfortable, safe. I would stay there again. Tv would lose signal sometimes while watching a program. I came down early to the lobby to order a breakfast sandwich and a Starbucks coffee, but the cafe wasn't open. The front desk offered other food from their market. It was all processed. I found peanuts and a bottled Starbucks coffee, but there was a hotel tax added to each item. Disappointed. Expensive.
Location is great, great service from staff Wifi is not included
Great lobby, helpful staff No free internet in room
Great location right downtown sf. Close to restaurants and bars, great front desk staff and cleaning staff Parking fees are outrageous, rude service desk, very small rooms, can hear every word from the other guests rooms
The location, helpful and friendly staff, nice size rooms N/a
The location is a big draw and it is a known entity in San Francisco. It met expectations. We stayed in the Tower. The room was big and the furnishings adequate, but not what I expected from a hotel of this caliber. Somewhat dated. Also, hallways are dark and below what one would expect from a hotel like this. I could've paid $100 more and stayed at the Fairmont, and it would've been worth it!
Great location Customer service was great Amenities could be better Rooms and bathrooms are a bit small
The hotel has lost its luster...beds were uncomfortable....toilet leaked....no water in rooms....grubby panhandler approached us while we sat at lobby coffee bar....not surprising since every time we went out the front door the doormen were either talking or texting n cell phones off to the side...I gave stayed there on and off for over 20 years...it's a shame but I will likely stay elsewhere going forward
Inmaculate beautiful building with lots of history, great location, really enjoy the stay
Wonderful location. Beautiful building Very busy hotel . Check in lines are long.
Check In was great. Very nice staff. Rewarded us for returning for a third time in two years by giving us (2) complimentary drink coupons. Valet was $58/night + Tax. Took over 30 mins to get car out of lot when checking out. Mini bar in room was half empty and had empty bottles, a milkshake cup and food wrappers inside.
Proximity to Union Square Rooms / noise. You can hear your neighbors' every word, toilets, etc. The doors slam shut SO very hard, that they will jar you from the heaviest sleep. Lots of late night parties on the 11th floor.
Rene, komfortable værelser og virkelig god beliggenhed. Gratis trådløst internet ville være et enormt plus.
Stort og travlt hotel med international atmosfære.Meget centralt beliggende med alle faciliteter. Restauranten er ret dyr, men der findes mange billigere alternativer lige udenfor døren. bl.a.
Utrolig serviceminded personale. Luksus på alle måder!!! Absolut intet negativt.
Sitting on the deck overlooking the water enjoying breakfast in the morning and wine and cheese in the afternoon. Beautiful setting.
Easy proximity to shopping & restaurants - lovely views of water & boating. great staff
Location. Deck. Wine hour!
The location is stunning with an amazing view of the city accross the bay from the outside decking, take your breakfast tray out on to the deck on a nice day. Even number rooms look out over a very busy adjoining restaurant deck which can be pretty noisy.
The hotel is quite lovely, with a nice deck overlooking the bay. The hotel is located next to a restaurant with outdoor seating, which is quite noisy, even after midnight. Parking for the hotel is a city lot; they will "validate" your parking ticket, but will charge you for it on your bill.
Rooms have an awesome view of the city, very modern decor, and comfortable beds. I've only ever stayed here on business, but this is an impressive hotel with impressive rooms if you don't want to spend a thousand bucks a night at the Fairmont.
I loved the staff! They were nice and very friendly! I also liked how we were able to communicate through texting and they replied very quickly. I asked for more conditioner for our stay, but we didn't get any extra. I also didn't like how there wasn't room for water or food in our fridge, but overall I loved this place! Definitely booking a room at the W in the future!
The view Carpet was very dirty, stained, there was not enough space in the room and pictures online were deceiving. The air conditioning was not working including the fan, the room felt warm even when the air conditioning showed a lower temperature. Very Noisy. Staff was not helpful when asked to move to a bigger room.
Liked the decor and comfort of the room Phones are not answered in time
Hip boutique hotel, nice and friendly staff. Great location! Of course it is relatively expensive, e.g. parking USD 52/day.
Conference and shopping Small lobby.
Being charged $60 to valet a car in unacceptable
upscale, friendly helpful staff. The building showed some signs of its age with the ceiling, back hallways of the spa etc however the rooms were beautiful, they honoured my Starwood membership and upgraded my room and the lounge was fantastic. The spa. The staff was friendly but the atmosphere is anything but relaxing. Clinical is the best description.
Great location. The staff were very very friendly. The ambience was hip. The room, although had no view was very well decorated and filled to the brim with mini bar treats. The price, although not cheap, was probably one of the better in the areas for a clean non-scary establishment. I would stay here again! $63 for parking!!! Youch! That's probably standard in the city. Your $300 a night room just went up to almost $400.
Great centrally located property. Rooms were very zen, beds super comfy and lots of cool little details that made the stay pleasant. Staff was hit or miss. I get that they want to create a chic vibe but a smile wouldn't kill anyone. Did get the requested high floor room with some semblance of a view.... granted our flight arrived at 5pm on a holiday weekend makes sense why they couldn't accommodate that request.
The service was exceptional. I requested a non-smoking room and my room smelled like smoke.
Location Based on 1 experience, we did not enjoy our dinning experience. Food was not well prepared. However, our server was cheerful and above average in service.
Staff pleasant. Able to check in early. Hotel located in union square. Please write at least 15 words
Convenient location on Powell. Pretty much at the centre of everything. Staff were very responsive. "on-site" parking as advertised was maybe 2 blocks away !! and the 2 rooms I booked were to have city views - one definitely did not and the second one had very limited views
relaxed and family like environment. Very well designed and pretty lobby. Too narrow corridor and small room.
The staff were very helpful and the location was perfect for getting around. Ask for a quiet room at the back as street noises can be annoying at the front, on Powell. I would definitely stay here again. Panhandlers are a problem around Uniion Square, but they were not aggressive, just sad.
smallest room ever experienced for a first class hotel and not worth the cost.
Nice rooms - reminded my wife and I of our stay in Italy. Great location and staff.
Great location, internet free with printer Rooms old fashion, a bit small, with old carpet
Walking distance to many sights. Too much furniture in small room. Strange smell in room and hall.
Poor internet connetion
The room was beautiful and the staff was exceptionally friendly. The location was convenient. We liked everything.
Really cool amenities, close to everything you need.Room service was nice and really cool views. I didn't like that after driving two hours up to SF,having reserved my room almost a week in advance they informed me my room was not ready, then couldn't give me an answer as to why or how long it would take to clean.Luckily friends who were getting married in the city had their room so we stayed there and waited almost an hour and a half until they called me to tell me it was finally ready then didn't offer much to try and make the situation better
location near attraction false fire alarm at 12:30am
The kids especially loved the indoor pool and the staff in the pool area were extremely gracious and helpful.
very good location and excellent pld decor Allows animals so we have dogs barking a couple of nights. Regular noice from the plumbing also disturbed us
Location was great and staff. Bathrooms are way to small, shower did not drain properly.
Location Bathrobes, slippers, and WATER included wow! Portable led lighted mirror. So convenient. Staff was really attentive to our needs and accommodating Very clean Booked a double bed superior room through AMOMA.com and they offered a king superior at the front desk. Definitely appreciated that. Spacious 2 ice vending machines on every floor Nothing.
Decor, comfort and staff interactions. I did not sleep all night due to an event at the hotel where people were slamming doors and talking in the halls all night.
Nice to stay in a piece of history. Very convenient location for MUNI/BART. Rooms appointments very nice, beds great. Main lobby atrium is stunning. Well-trained, personable staff. Coffee/wifi in room would be nice, but that's unfortunately the nature of the beast (Hol Inn Express does that, not most upscale). I went with two hyperactive twin boys, and though not an ideal hotel for kids in most ways, the staff was very patient and accommodating with them. I'd say I wish it were a better value, but really next to what else what available in the area it was a better bang for the buck than most.
Fantastic SF landmark...we never left the Hotel.
The hotel is stunning and the staff is so nice. I loved the history and the elegance of the place. I liked everything.
I liked the overall appearance - the old world charm with today's amenities - great pool! the servic nothing
I wish I could pick out something positive to say...the one employee Kristina at the desk was friendly and at least the door locked so we had somewhere to put our stuff and be out of the rain. The rest of it was like a bad joke. Here is the laundry list: the location is creepy, you can see an enclave of homeless (and everything they were up to) under the tangle of overpass from an entire side of the building and we were harassed for money every time we went out. The traffice noise is awful. We were given a smoking room when non smoking was requested and necessary. The smoke detector was right over the bed and had multiple bright flashing lights over us all night and had gaps all around the mounting and appeared ready to fall out of the ceiling. The mattress was better than the floor, barely. The hotel was out of shampoo. The towels had stains and looked dingy. We got ONE partial roll of toilet paper. The shower rod had been replaced and had all the holes left unrepaired in the drywall around where it was previously mounted. The breakfast was a joke, but at least there was coffee. The staff felt mopping the entire lobby at CHECKOUT TIME so it was slick and wet was a smart idea. The staff at the desk during checkout was curt, which is the nicest thing I can say, and never asked how our stay was or if anything had been acceptable...I am not sure WHAT was wrong with the elevators, but if they'd gone any slower they'd be moving backwards...I am sorry, but this place was a joke for the money we spent.
the staffs are very friendly and the room is in good and clean condition. the sink is leaking!!!
The hotel was not clean. There were no luggage carts. The housecleaning staff came a day early and told Mrs. Sutti she had to be out at 4 PM ( ! ? ! ) after it was confirmed the Suttis were leaving on Oct. 1. Very poor service. We will not use this hotel again.
No cooking utensils or dishes in kitchenette
Kitchen was reason we chose site. Our fridge was broken and was not repaired sufficiently for our 3 day stay. Front desk staff helpful but manager was UNRESPONSIVE to multiple phone calls.
Staff was very friendly and efficient. The location makes it easy to get onto the Bay Bridge quickly, and decent places to eat are within an easy drive. There were well-lit places to walk our dogs. The room, while not huge, was comfortable and had been recently maintained. No water glasses in the room. One of my dogs found things under the bed that the vacuum cleaner missed, fortunately none of them dangerous. Woodwork in the bathroom could have used a little more frequent cleaning.
Great staff, newly remodeled rooms and location was perfect. Nothing
Location and friendly staff Parking fee was extremely expensive and there was no free wifi. For the price, wifi should have been included.
I liked that we were able to find a great place on such short notice. The Manager on Duty, I think her name was Susan, was very helpful after one of the reservation agent accidentally mixed up our checkout time- and another Agent Brandon wasn't very kind to us. I ate most of my meals at the hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner- and I had three different bartender/servers during my stay that were all so very pleasant. Some even gave me directions to buy a hoodie at a nearby store because I didn't realize it would be colder there this time of year still. And the chef made me an awesome salad when I wanted to exchange tuna for chicken on the salad that comes with Lemon Dressing- it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this substitution as the combination of greens and dressing go amazing with Tuna! It will cost you 2 dollars more as Tuna is more expensive (rightfully so) but it I ate the entire thing. I couldn't stop myself. Other than the mixup on our checkout time- I was happy with my stay overall.
The location is excellent. Close to Chinatown, Union square & the Powell St cable car. Friendly atmosphere with the wine tastings! & Free WIFI in the room--brilliant! Everything was fine.
Centrally situated for most city attractions. Staff generally helpful. Nice free wine reception each evening. The breakfast was poor. Muffins and a drink taken in the lobby does not compare favourably with other hotels. Also expensive for what it was though USA taxes seem to contribute considerably to the high cost.
The staff I was disappointed in the room as we only had a shower in a very small area. I didn't realize the bathroom was like that, I would have rather had a full bath, it was a bit wierd the way it was set up and the lighting was not good. The room was a bit tired and needed some redecorating. The location was good and staff as I said was wonderful and very accomodating.
proximity to union square and other great restaurants and sites are a plus. hard to control room temperature..and bathroom needs to be updated
Very comfy bed and pillows. Free in room safe. Hotel staff were very understanding when we asked for a quiter room away from the road. We were given another room the very next morning. All of staff we encountered were extremely pleasant which we value very highly. Rooms slightly on the small side but it is a town house hotel so not too much of a surprise and how much time do you spend in your room when there is the whole city of San Francisco on your doorstep?
location, professional staff, nice facility no
Great locaiton - although you do have to walk up the hill - but that's just San Francisco. Rooms are spacious and overall it's great value Some (not all) of the hotel staff are miserable and unhelpful - it's a shame as the other half of the staff are great.
Good location, very close to tram + Union Square. Clean hotel, helpful staff. Complimentary winetasting every evening. Breakfast was a small table in the lobby with muffins + coffee/tea.
The position is good being close to Powell St and cable car and good restaurants. The hotel was quite pleasant but not at all as depicted on its website. The room was basic, quite run down and did not represent value for money spent at all and also had a very unpleasant smell which we needed to mask.
I thought the location was perfect and I easily walked or caught a cab for my destination. I traveled from Massachusetts and arrived around 2 PM. My room was not ready and they told me to come back in an hour. I also thought the bathroom was very small. My husband is 6'2" and I was glad he was not with me because of its size.
Location Expensive parking, rude staff

Location Beds are too hard
Tremendous character; felt right at home here. Location was great, just a block from the end of the Mason/Powell cable car line, a few minutes from Fishermans Wharf, a block or two from bus stops. Very quiet despite its location. Do not come here with lots of luggage - there's no place to put it. Rooms are small, beds are uncomfortable for couples. No place to put things, so you have to step over your belongings in your room.
Location to fisherman's wharf.
The cleanliness and the location No everything was perfect
The location is great centralized to were you can walk to Fisherman's Warf and other main attractions. Hotel was very clean and serve was great. No pool
I loved this hotel. Very modern and very different! No
The location was incredibly convenient.
Great location and very trendy
Location Rooms facing the street are extremely noisy like all the windows were open. Beds are very hard
great view, fun nautical theme executed well throughout the hotel light switch in bathroom and the toilet paper holder were in odd places, but did not detract from the overall experience
The staff was great specially the greeters at the door and baggage handlers Location location location
The room was fantastic and the staff was great.
The staff was wonderful. My granddaughter was able to do her studies while I was in class. She was able to do this while looking out a window at the beautiful scenery thanks to the nice people we met while we ate breakfast. I thought the staff was great along with the great training I had for my business. I would like to stay there again. It was hard to drive to because the roads were being worked on. It took us a little longer to arrive than I had planned.
Convenient location. Beautiful view of San Francisco
All the hotel staff was very friendly, courteous and accomodating. The Wifi at the hotel was very spotty. It was in and out and made it difficult to use my laptop in the room.
The staff were very professional .
The views were gorgeous! I wish it had a pool, or at least a hot tub, or steam room. I could hear through the walls...other guests etc. It was noisy.
Bedding, bed, pillows & nice bathroom. Was after hours & our request for room service was still met. Nothing.
Lovely room with plenty of plugs for laptops, etc. Refrigerator and coffee maker. Room also had separate "dressing table" area AND a full bathroom; perfect for a couple! Parking rates absurd. Found a much cheaper garage on our own.
Most of it is the location and the good value The service was not great very unpersonal
Such a nice hostel for the price. Did not feel like a last minute option.
Clean, comfortable, friendly staff. The building has a lot of character and is in a relatively convenient location (a little far from the BART station). Not a lot of noise insulation from other rooms or hallway.
I like hostels because they're a good value for an area of the city that can otherwise be pricey. The staff is laid back yet professional and knowledgable about the local area. I stayed in a small room with plenty of storage, sink, fridge and TV. I liked having the large window to the courtyard/ open area that you can open completely. I was worried about getting enough sleep because of the music rehearsal studio that is in the basement. While in my room at 9pm I could hear the band play muffled but clearly. The tv would cover the sound easily. This went on and off till 11. I could hear some construction sounds from next door through the open area out my window until 7pm, but not again until after 9am.
