With more than two million passengers using Little Rock National Airport every year, it is not surprising to find that LIT is the state's largest commercial airport. Known professionally as Adams Field, the airport, commonly referred to as Little Rock National Airport, handles 150 flights every day to more than a dozen cities.
Little Rock National Airport has just finished a number of renovations to the main terminal and more are underway. Six years ago, a new parking garage was added connecting the garage to the terminals with a covered walkway. When all is said and done, the airport will have seen more than $180 million in improvements.
The goal of the airport is to make all travelers feel welcome and satisfied during their time in the airport. A large art gallery near Gate 6 is an excellent way to spend time while waiting for a flight, and a nice array of restaurants are perfect for a quick snack, sit-down meal, or cold drink. Smoking is not allowed in the airport, which can pose a problem with some smokers. There are a couple designated smoking areas outside, away from the terminal.
Directions
Passengers coming from the northwest will take the necessary interstate or highway systems (I-540 is one of the better choices) to reach the I-40. Follow the I-40 to the I-30 in North Little Rock. Follow the I-30 across the river and south to the I-440. Airport signs are easy to follow from the I-440. Those coming from the west will also find that the above directions work well.
Those coming from the northeastern area of the state should take the I-49 south to highway 67. Take the Memphis exit after coming into North Little Rock and connect to the I-40 east. From this point, follow the directions found above.
Those coming from the south will take either Highway 65 or the I-30 heading north to Little Rock. Take the exit for the I-440 and follow airport signs.
Main Terminal
Little Rock National Airport has a two-level terminal with a total of twelve gates. The lower level is shaped like a zig-zag with shuttles, rental cars, taxis, and bus access in the left portion, baggage claim in the middle, and check-in in the portion to the right of the entrances. Escalators and elevators take passengers to the second level where the gates, food court, and shopping are located. Upstairs in the second level, the Riverside Bar & Grill is located right before the security checkpoints. After these checkpoints, only ticketed passengers may proceed. Gates 1, 3, and 5 serve American Airlines. Gates 2, 4, and 6 serve Delta Airlines. Gate 7 serves Continental. Gate 8 serves US Airways. Gates 9, 10, and 11 serve Southwest Airlines. Finally, Gate 12 serves Northwest Airline.
