A number of airlines fly out of Bristol International Airport to many countries throughout Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. Located less than ten miles from downtown Bristol, Bristol International Airport has become one of Britain's most popular airports for those who want to avoid the long journey to London. Bristol International Airport is especially close to the Welsh border making it a handy choice for passengers flying to or from Wales.
Bristol International Airport is easily reached by car or bus. The train station is approximately seven miles from the airport making train travel an option as well. The Bristol International Flyer bus travels right past the train station making it easy for incoming passengers to quickly connect with train service to other regions. More than three million passengers have used Bristol International Airport in the first seven months of 2007, and there is good reason why. The airport is well designed, located in Western England, easy to reach, and certainly friendly to any traveler regardless of his or her travel experience.
Effective July 2007, Bristol International Airport banned smoking from any area within the terminal. Smoking is not allowed at any point after passing through the security check-point and only a few outdoors areas are designated for smoking. Airport regulations require passengers to pass through security at least an hour prior to their flight, so smokers should carry nicotine gum or some other smoke-free alternative.
Directions To Bristol Airport
- Regardless of a driver's starting point, to reach Bristol International Airport, the driver usually takes the M5 heading towards Bristol.
- North: Those coming from the north will take Junction 18 from the M5 onto A4 follow the A4 into Bristol and watch for the Bristol City Football Field. Turn onto the A38 and head towards Taunton, the airport turn-off is about eight miles down the road.
- East: From the east, drivers will take Junction 20 and join the M5 heading south. From here, they should follow the directions for those coming from the north.
- Wales: Drivers heading from Wales will take the M4 to Junction 22 and join the M49 to the M5. Take Junction 18 off of the M5 and follow directions for those heading from the north.
- South: Drivers heading from the south should take Junction 22 and take the third rotary exit onto the A38. Follow the A38 to the A370 rotary and take the second rotary exit onto the A38. Follow the A38 for a little over ten miles and take the left turn into the airport.
- Bath: Finally, Drivers coming from Bath will take the A4 into Bristol but turn left onto the A4174/Ring Road. From here follow airport signs.
Main Terminal
Bristol International Airport's main terminal contains three floors. The ground floor has all of the check-in counters, ticketing desks, tour operator desks, information booth, a few shops, restaurants, and escalators and elevators to the first floor. In the back section of the ground floor, the international and domestic arrival areas and baggage claim can be found.
The first floor starts with the security check-point, only ticketed passengers are allowed on this level. There are eight gates (1 through 8) on the backside of this level, and passengers will find many stores and restaurants surrounding the departure lounge. All eight gates handle both departures and arrivals for Aer Arann, Air France, Air Malta, Air Southwest, Aurigny, Brussels Airlines, Continental Airlines, Eastern Airways, EasyJet, Flybe, KLM, OLT, RyanAir, and SkyBus. There are also a number of charter tour companies that work from the airport, among these are Atlantic Holidays, Balkan Holidays, BelleAir, Cosmos, Eclipse, First Choice, Freedom Flights, Inghams, Kosmar, Skytours, Thomas Cook, ThomsonFly, and XL.com.
Finally, there is a mezzanine level where the executive lounges and many more restaurants and the bars are located. The mezzanine level is accessed from the first floor. Take the elevators or stairs that are just past Nuance on the left after passing through security.
