What I liked.
Fordele: Individual walk up selection of vehicles. Cleanliness. Reliability. Great gas mileage.
Ulemper: What I didn't like. Extraordinarily slow at the counter. Thinly veiled customer service with a smile. Not genuine.

Renting at DAY
Fordele: Dayton Airport Alamo offers clean vehicles in a convenient, walkable location close to baggage claim. Alamo personnel were professional and efficient.
Get service lacking selection
Fordele: Really tried to save me as much money as possible.
Ulemper: Lack of selection of vehicles.

Ulemper: Even though I clicked that I didn't want the extra insurance coverage, I was charged $22 per day anyway.

Fordele: Only that the agent told me of the only cat rental place in the airport that accept debit cards was Avis and she explained to me if I had reservation from one of the airlines that they then would accept my debit card (this was not noted on my reservation when I made it very upsetting ).
Ulemper: Not given advance notice that debit cards were not accepted at the time of reservation (only those who had flight reservations ) very upset (but very happy) that only one car rental place (Avis) accept my debit card . Alamo now Thrifty/Dollar also no longer accepting debit cards everyone don't have major credit cards (some by choice and I'm one of them) it's sad and unfair, Not Happy At All
Easy pick up and return
Fordele: Very fast and easy to get car and return. When there was a mistake in the bill they cheerfully fixed it.
Fordele: The car handled very nicely and was nicely equipped
Ulemper: The customer service was awful with a very aggressive counter person who then charged me twice what my reservation cost was. I will gladly pay slightly more for a rental car so that I never have to deal with these people again.

Nice car, too bad it wasn't clean
Fordele: Nice car with all the options, comfortable ride.
Ulemper: Needed large vehicle to pickup clients. Car was dirty, inside and out. Had to spend my own money to clean the car so it was acceptable for picking up business professionals. Inside was not vacuumed, chip crumbs in the door handle, some sticky white substance on the dash and several seats and candy in the creases of the rear seat. Not acceptable condition for a car going out to a customer. Cars should be cleaned inside and out when they are returned before being checked out to a new customer. Cost me $20 that I shouldn't have had to spend! Also, the system was down when I returned the car, so I was told I would receive a receipt in email. Never received the receipt, called customer service to make sure the car was showing returned, but still haven't received the receipt.
Great Service
Fordele: I have rented many cars and have had plenty of bad experiences. This time was not one of them.
Smooth check in and Check Out

Fordele: I asked for a different car after the first car they brought me had a musty smell, so they brought me a new one.
Ulemper: I couldn't figure out how to move the back of the seat forward and since it was pouring rain outside I didn't want to get out of the car to get a closer look. When I reached my hand down by the side of the seat my fingers were covered in a greasy substance so I gave up after that. Having my seat back too far made my 3 hour trip from Dayton to Cleveland a bit uncomfortable. The car also had a weird blind spot on the side. There was also trash in the back seat. I was expecting more for a company like Enterprise.

Fordele: Pick-up area was easy to find, and overall the staff I interacted with were professional and friendly.
Ulemper: The signage about which drop-off area to use was apparently incorrect, which made things confusing and tiring after my trip.
Ulemper: It would have been helpful to have the drop off procedures for when an attendant wasn't present explained during the pickup.
Ulemper: The employees on the phone...both times, at the desk, and at pick up and drop off. Very rude.
Ulemper: I had to cancel my rental based on not having a major credit card. I went with Avis whom was more accommodating. I will not be renting with Dollar in the future.

Ulemper: The car cost more than advertised, by about $100, so it was almost double of what I expected. The insurance I bought online with the car (3rd party) I was told was useless, and they were known to not honor the purchase if something were to happen, so that's $30 I won't get back. All in all it was a lot of wasted money.

Ulemper: There was a dent on the side of the car that I saw before taking the rental and let the person know and he seemed to think it was no big deal. I did not want to be charged for it so made sure he annotated it but I'm sure I could've been charged if that hadn't happened beforehand
Well I'll never use Dollar again, that's for sure...
Fordele: They did finally supply me with a car for the amount that this site specified. It was not the car nor was it the class of car as promised by this web sites reservation.
Ulemper: During the reservation, I was asked if I needed insurance. I did so I checked the button for $9.00 per day. When the reservation was completed, the funds for the insurance was charged to my account right away and it stated the rental fee would be secured at time of pick up. No big deal.
But when I get to the counter the attendant states that I need to use my personal car insurance OR get insurance directly from Dollar Rental. The insurance for the reservation web site is not recognized as valid insurance. They did not budge and it cost me an extra $186.00 for 6 days of rental. That is more than 6 months of FULL auto insurance out in the rest of the world. What a scam....
Now I need to fight for a refund on the $9/day insurance from the web site that was not allowed.

Rental Not Ready
Ulemper: The confirmation time was not accurate. The rental was not at the airport and we had to drive home and come back. First time in 30 years that we faced this.
Fordele: Car was nice
Ulemper: Removing fuel option at end as instructed was terrible and no one seemed to know they could do it and how--had to wait.
Extra day
Fordele: I was not happy that our extra day was so expensive compared to the rest of the rental I am not sure if other rental cars make you pay for the whole tank if you buy the gas in advance. It would seem that if I pay you to refill it you would know how much is in the tank at that point and then be able to charge me later that day

Ulemper: The customer service. I was treated much better at Alamo where I ended up having to rent from because I was not able to get my rental when I needed it from Thrifty.

Vehicle was very clean and ready to go.
Ulemper: If you rental agencies would offer something besides those cheap Chrysler products.
I realize they practically give them to you (how else could they get rid of them), but they are very uncomfortable and noisy. Luckily I only need a van once in a great while. And thankfully you have better quality vehicles to rent when I need a sedan or coupe.

Over the Top Refil Price and More
Fordele: The base price was very reasonable.
Ulemper: It took at least 45 minutes for me to pickup the car. There were four people ahead of my in line and only one person working the counter. The car was filthy on the outside when we picked it up. It was a hard blue car with road salt completely covering the sides and side windows. The steering wheel had some brown sticky substance on it.
I was planning on returning it with a full tank, so when I picked the car up I told them that. I thought I remembered a gas station close to the airport, but apparently it wasn’t where I remembered. We didn’t ace enough time to go out of our way (traveling with a young child was partly to blame) and I dropped it off and told them. I had used just over half a tank and was charged $75 to refill the tank to full. Very frustrated overall and was finally charged a lot more than I expected for a dirty product and my fault if not returning it with gas.
Vehicle smelled like smoke

Never rent from Budget
Fordele: Drop off was a breeze
Ulemper: To start off when I picked the van up it was parked in a dark garage between two huge vans we almost couldn't get in, but in order to leave the garage you have to sign a paper stating there's no damage to the car... you can't see anything in a dark garage! Next the van smelled awful, no floor mats, the passenger side between the seats had all kinds of food in it, and last the side automatic doors didn't work. Once I got home and we were packing up the van we noticed a giant strach on the side, along with damage to the front, which I didn't see in the DARK garage. We drove from Ohio to Florida over 1,000 miles, on our way home about 3 hrs into our trip we blew a tire. Got off the highway and called roadside assistance, they sent out a repair company which took an 1 1/2 to show up, then 30 minutes to change it, and the spare he put on was about the size of a cheerio, then we had to stuff the blown tire into the van with our stuff, we were told we had to take it with us. So I call roadside again, because I don't feel comfortable driving this van with 4 kids and all of our stuff over 1,000 miles back home on this tiny spare. Budget tells us to just trade it in at any location for a new rental. We did find a place to trade it in, that was an hour out of the way, then transferring 4 kids and a ton of luggage to another van in the 110 degree Florida heat is always fun. So all this time wasted caused us to miss the return time for the rent a car and we were charged 120 bucks to add an additional day which Budget would not removed the charge. Are you freaking kidding me!! Never ever ever will we rent from Budget again. Awful, Awful, Awful!!!
Not what was promised
Fordele: Client car and polite speedy service
Ulemper: I did get the price quote that I was promised online when I got there I end up paying $200 for tax and stuff.

Ulemper: In the middle of winter, with very cold weather, and a recent snowstorm, and icing of windows every night, it was no place to be without an ice scraper. There was no scraper in the car. None in the backseat and none in the trunk. It was not nice using a credit card to clean the windows off every day.
Ulemper: When picking up my rental, I, along with several other customers who reserved and even pre-paid for the rental car were told that they didn't have any cars left and didn't know when they were going to get more since it was dependent on the return of other cars. I couldn't afford to wait indefinitely so I went to Hertz. I got a car right away.
Budget At Dayton (DAY) BE AWARE
Fordele: Car was a Kia Sol. Very nice and clean.
Ulemper: Being told a flat lie by the counter representative upon picking up my car. Was quoted $68 and some change for my reservation but was charged over $90. When I questioned the rep, he said that Kayak doesn't include the airport fees, etc. Upon dropping off the car, the lady informed me that the cost was higher due to a request to "upgrade" my car. I was shocked. Be weary of the Budget at Dayton. I spoke with the manager who said that he would ensure that I would get my originally quoted price...so we'll see when I get my credit card statement.

The car was filthy on the outside when we picked it up. It was a hard blue car with road salt completely covering the sides and side windows. The steering wheel had some brown sticky substance on it.
I was planning on returning it with a full tank, so when I picked the car up I told them that. I thought I remembered a gas station close to the airport, but apparently it wasn’t where I remembered. We didn’t ace enough time to go out of our way (traveling with a young child was partly to blame) and I dropped it off and told them. I had used just over half a tank and was charged $75 to refill the tank to full. Very frustrated overall and was finally charged a lot more than I expected for a dirty product and my fault if not returning it with gas.

Fordele: Drop off was a breeze
Ulemper: To start off when I picked the van up it was parked in a dark garage between two huge vans we almost couldn't get in, but in order to leave the garage you have to sign a paper stating there's no damage to the car... you can't see anything in a dark garage! Next the van smelled awful, no floor mats, the passenger side between the seats had all kinds of food in it, and last the side automatic doors didn't work. Once I got home and we were packing up the van we noticed a giant strach on the side, along with damage to the front, which I didn't see in the DARK garage. We drove from Ohio to Florida over 1,000 miles, on our way home about 3 hrs into our trip we blew a tire. Got off the highway and called roadside assistance, they sent out a repair company which took an 1 1/2 to show up, then 30 minutes to change it, and the spare he put on was about the size of a cheerio, then we had to stuff the blown tire into the van with our stuff, we were told we had to take it with us. So I call roadside again, because I don't feel comfortable driving this van with 4 kids and all of our stuff over 1,000 miles back home on this tiny spare. Budget tells us to just trade it in at any location for a new rental. We did find a place to trade it in, that was an hour out of the way, then transferring 4 kids and a ton of luggage to another van in the 110 degree Florida heat is always fun. So all this time wasted caused us to miss the return time for the rent a car and we were charged 120 bucks to add an additional day which Budget would not removed the charge. Are you freaking kidding me!! Never ever ever will we rent from Budget again. Awful, Awful, Awful!!!
Not what was promised

Ulemper: I did get the price quote that I was promised online when I got there I end up paying $200 for tax and stuff.
Ulemper: When picking up my rental, I, along with several other customers who reserved and even pre-paid for the rental car were told that they didn't have any cars left and didn't know when they were going to get more since it was dependent on the return of other cars. I couldn't afford to wait indefinitely so I went to Hertz. I got a car right away.
Budget At Dayton (DAY) BE AWARE
Fordele: Car was a Kia Sol. Very nice and clean.
Ulemper: Being told a flat lie by the counter representative upon picking up my car. Was quoted $68 and some change for my reservation but was charged over $90. When I questioned the rep, he said that Kayak doesn't include the airport fees, etc. Upon dropping off the car, the lady informed me that the cost was higher due to a request to "upgrade" my car. I was shocked. Be weary of the Budget at Dayton. I spoke with the manager who said that he would ensure that I would get my originally quoted price...so we'll see when I get my credit card statement.
