The worst car rental experience of my life. I have rented cars in Mexico before, and this was by far the most miserable pickup experience. I'd rather travel on a donkey than rent from Europcar again. Pick up and drop off we’re both stressful. They seemed to be very understaffed. They also tried to trick us into buying their insurance even though everything I read said it wasn’t legal and that if we had coverage elsewhere that would work. Europcar would not allow me to pickup my car without purchasing additional rental car insurance. I already have rental car insurance through my credit card, but Europcar forces you to purchase additional insurance through them, which is more expensive than the cost of the rental itself! This is not disclosed at all by Kayak or Europcar during booking. We paid 140 Eur in advance for the car, but it isn’t visible on the final receipt. We were told to pay a huge amount of money for the insurance - it was 3-4 times more expensive then the car itself and this price was not expected at all. This place is a scam. The cars are ok but they offer low charges with a bait and switch for super high insurance. For 5 days they wanted $800 for 100 percent coverage and $550 for 10 percent. Further their gas policy of “like for like” is a joke. I got a car with a quarter tank of gas and 37k km. Their official picture they send later showed it full and an odometer of 9k km.
