Great service from the moment we walked in at the front desk to when we checked out. Everyone was super friendly, very accommodating and warm. Our room was really nice and a great price too. Just what we needed after a long drive from Torres del Paine. The breakfast was great both mornings, one being super early when being picked up for the all day King Penguin tour. We ate out in town our first night in, but had dinner the second night in your restaurant. It was an amazing meal, along with great wine! If I'm ever down to Punta Arenas again, I will stay there. If anyone I know is visiting there, I will recommend Hotel Rey Don Felipe in a heartbeat. Thanks for the lovely stay!
Location was great, the room was clean and nice, and the staff was great. Slow wifi.
The Best Western Finis Terrae is a nice hotel that's right in the middle of town. Check in was normal as we arrived on an early flight and our room was not ready, the desk held our luggage for us so we could walk around town a little bit. Some of the guys at the desk spoke English. We got back around noon and checked in to a spacious room with a sit ting area, safe, wifi, and an ok sized bathroom that had a tub. Breakfast was included and consisted of fruits, eggs, bacon, breads, some pastries, coffee and juice. The view from the restaurant was very nice as its on the 6th floor and not many buildings obscure is view. The hotel is right in the middle of evening within close proximity of restaurants, money exchange, supermarkets, laundry, stores and tourist sites (all of which we used). Check out was also smooth and they held our luggage again as we didn't have to check in for our cruise until late afternoon so we could go do additional site seeing and shopping. The TV was a little fuzzy at times, the desk didn't tell us we needed a safe key so I had to walk back downstairs to get it but these are minor inconveniences.
Quiet location, good shower with plenty of hot water, good buffet breakfast Creepy, very unsound, stairs and floors make a cracking sound, you can hear the guests next room as if they were directly talking to you, and even as they are speaking in a normal tone of voice, not loud. Some of the staff are not trained enough to deal with extendend bookings appropriately. There are a lack of plates and forks at the breakfast table, I had to go and fetch some everyday in the kitchen myself, because staff was not available. The billing process is insidious and devious, they charge more if you pay in chilean pesos than if you paid with US dollars, because according to them, they have to charge us non residents foreigners a 19% sales tax if we pay in chilean pesos, but not if we pay in US dollars. Now I fully know for a fact that this is pure nonsense, because in reality visitors non residents do not have to pay the sales tax in Chile even if you pay in chilean pesos. I know this for sure because I stayed in lots of other chilean hotels in the past 50 days and never had to pay the 19% sales tax because I am a foreign non resident, and even as I paid in Chilean pesos everytime no other hotel/hostal has ever charged me extra for that. They also charged me US $20.00 extra to wash six items of my clothing, some of them underwear and socks, a ridiculous high amount Then they made the paying process even more cumbersome, I had to fill out an extra form in order to be able to pay in US dollars. Staff should be more adequately trained and ask guests if they wish to stay longer before they rent the room to somebody else.
