Fordele: Wonderful unique place ! Beautiful views, calm and peaceful and very very warm and accommodating owner and staff !

Fordele: Our four night stay at Quinta Da Mata was a highlight of our trip to Portugal and Spain. Luis was an exceptional host - great insights into what to do in the area and very generous with his time (and food and wine)... We ate at the manor each night and enjoyed great food, wine and conversation with Luis and the other guests. The house is beautifully restored and maintained and the Presidential suite was very comfortable with beautiful views over Chaves and the region. We especially enjoyed our permaculture tour of the gardens and our evenings in front of the fire with a glass of local red wine. It was the perfect place to relax at the end of our holiday before returning to Australia. Thank you Luis! We look forward to returning.

Fordele: Amazing find. Loved the history of the property and the fact that they use vegetables etc from their own garden in their restaurant. Dinner was wonderful. The room was huge and furnished with period furniture.

Ulemper: Lots of stairs so not appropriate for mobility handicapped.

Fordele: Out of town, but that is what we wanted. We loved our stay here, great wine, good food and great hospitality. Loved it.

Ulemper: There was no hook on the wall for the shower head to hang. Such a simple thing, but would have made it a perfect stay.

Fordele: Amazing location and hospitality from our host was second to none. Food and wine are fantastic. Relaxed. A real find and we will be returning.

Ulemper: Bathroom grouting and silicon mouldy. Really petty comment but a hate of mine.

Fordele: Beautiful family-run traditional quinta in a spectacular natural setting with views, about 3km from Chaves. The house is amazing, with lovely grounds and swimming pool. Peaceful and relaxing and close to nature, which is what we were looking for. Breakfast is good and we also had dinner there one evening (25 euro a head but includes a bottle of nice wine from the region). My partner had the beef and I had the goat (first time tentatively trying it)...both were absolutely delicious!! All local produce, much of it coming from the estate itself I think, and everything is done with care and well thought out with really nice touches everywhere. Most importantly, the owner Luis and family and staff were really nice and warm and made us feel most welcome. They spent the time to chat, giving us great information and suggesting some amazing routes and places to visit. Many thanks for a wonderful stay!

Ulemper: No complaints at all. The only suggestion I have is regarding the room we stayed in. It didn't have a lot of natural light (and that did keep the room cool as the weather was very hot)...but the lights were dim and I think an extra light in the room would be a good idea.

Ulemper: Dinner was poor Starters excellent and the Portuguese Puddin was the best i've ever had However the main course was simply terrible. The meat was tough and very poor quality. This was complained about but no reduction in the bill as a consequence Wont stay agaion!

Fordele: Great - just a few minutes by the road from the centre but this interesting.

Fordele: Absolutely fantastic looking building set in beautiful grounds, nicely set out as you approach from the long drive way. The room was a joy with a veranda looking out over the pool.

Ulemper: The only thing letting the side down was the shower, one of those stand in the bath numbers with a tiny glass screen with only one outcome, wet floor.

Fordele: Great value and friendly staff, and cool ambiance too. I would gladly stay here again.

Fordele: Very large and comfortable hotel, who wouldn’t like staying in a Fort!

Ulemper: Cobbled courtyards not very clever when your on a motorcycle tour

Fordele: Clean room, nice shower. Good parking. Not too far from town centre. Staff were friendly. We didn’t use the restaurant but it looked busy.

Ulemper: Thin walls- our neighbours were so noisy, all night, and I had the worst nights sleep. Breakfast wasn’t great. I left something behind in the room and no one replied to my email.

Ulemper: You had to drive to the city area. About 4 kilometers. Short ride.

Fordele: Impressing breakfast, friendly and helpful staff and the hotel is situated perfect in town near therma and Douro River. Rooms with a perfect vue.

Fordele: Food hotel with excellent staff. First rate breakfast and underground garage to lock motorcycles away.

Ulemper: Nothing

Ulemper: A.C. didn’t work and the room was very hot. Shower didn’t drain well and had to keep turning off the water.

Fordele: Everything met our expectations.

Ulemper: The only thing was that the shower did not drain well, so the bathroom would end up with lots of water on the floor.

Fordele: The elevators were out, so we had to walk four flights of stairs

Ulemper: No air conditioning and the room was hot

Fordele: Good hotel, offering good value for money. Clean rooms and helpful staff. Good breakfast.

Ulemper: The beds (twin room) could be wider and a bit more confortable. The bath had very little water pressure.

Fordele: Excellent location at an extremely affordable price. Not luxurious, but very clean and comfortable.

Ulemper: Lacks an elevator to the upper floors, which could be a problem for people with disabilities.

Fordele: The staff were very helpful. The location is perfect. Rooms are very nice. Best value.

Fordele: Beautiful rooms - lovely exposed granite and spacious layout. Great location - close to the torre and the main plaza along with several restaurants. The wifi was pretty fast. Pay parking nearby (€0.60/hr, near to the torre) was good for us but may be hard to find spots before 17:00 or on a weekend when it is free, so beware. Breakfast was 7-8/10.

Ulemper: The walls are quite thin - we could hear people going to the toilet in the next room and toilets flushing in rooms on the floor above, so bring your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. The staff are quite reserved and although they were nice, I wouldn't say they were "helpful."

Fordele: Clean and convenient location of the hotel in the middle of town, spacious room for three people.

Ulemper: Checking in was slow, and not sure if our booking was confirmed when we got there.

Fordele: This property exceeded my expectations! The room was bigger that what I thought it would be. The bathroom was updated. The room was very clean. The breakfast was great, meat, jams, bread and cheese. This places was so cute!

Fordele: Clean, in the center of the town, view from the balcony partly to the mountains. Good variant for one night.

Ulemper: Bad wi-fi connection A bit old fashioned

Ulemper: there was a night club across the road and it was a bit noisy . Some of the guests were very loudly when returning from the night club to their rooms.

Fordele: delicious breakfast, lovely home made walnut cake. Great parking facility offered for our bikes.

Fordele: It's a beautiful place. Rooms exceptional, all new, fresh & clean. The aircon actually worked & very well, even though not needed most of the night. WiFi also worked well. The extra touches, like the good quality soap etc, The dog was happy as he had somewhere to walk. Hosts were very nice & accommodating. Breakfast was delicious, & we were thinking of just getting on the road, so pleased we stayed. The homemade dishes were so tasty. Thank you very much. Absolutely a must... If we are up there again.

Fordele: Lovely staff, let us check in at 2am after a rough day. The breakfast was simple but fresh and tasty.

Fordele: The owner also owns the café below, so we were able to purchase some food for breakfast the next morning. The staff willingly stored our bicycles over night in a secure area. They also called us a taxi into Chaves when requested.

Ulemper: The town itself is very small. For a little more money it would make sense to stay in Chaves.

Fordele: I got surprised with the breakfast. Very good, I would only add a basket with some fruit and maybe yogurtes, but I completely understand the price limits this. It was a cheap night. Also loved the attention the staff had with us. Guys keep doing it as you do, we all loved the way you handled us. It's definitely a place to come back if I return to Chaves.

Ulemper: I clearly understand the fact the facilities aren't the latest trend or flawless. Chaves is not exactly the trendiest place and this will not bring a big amount of costumers. This being said the rooms need a bit more attention.

Fordele: Very helpful staff, even gave us a choice of rooms. Good breakfast. Basic comfortable room.

Ulemper: The was bed was a bit flaccid and the pillow too high

Fordele: The location was spot on right in the middle of town staff were pleasant and helpful and we had a balcony overlooking the castle

Ulemper: It was a bit dated but overall it was a nice hotel

Fordele: The breakfast was minimal but ok and they ran out of tea bags so had to buy our own !! Off road garage parking was free and the hotel was close to town.

Ulemper: Hotel was just as expected at a reasonable price.

Fordele: Good hotel. Fair price/quality. Private parking

Ulemper: At our (late) arrival the lady at the reception was not very friendly and helpful. Although we had a reservation for a parking place, she claimed that a private parking place was not available. Next morning the gentleman at the reception was very kind and polite and acknowledged the fact that there was indeed a reservation.

Fordele: The hotel is placed right in city center and you can walk anywhere to visit the main attractions. Is clean, the rooms are big and breakfast is decent.

Ulemper: I was on the third floor and at 7.00 am there was a lot of noise from the floor above that is not part of the hotel. So the sound proofing is not good at all at the third floor. Maybe it was an exception but it was really noisy for one hour or so.

Fordele: Great Location across a park which also has the Thermal Baths. No problem finding parking and close to all kinds of restaurants. Elevator access to higher floors and easy check-in. Rooms are simple, but on the larger side and mine had a balcony, which was a bonus. Good bathroom with bathtub. Breakfast was ok. Restaurant...which we did not use... seemed ok.

Ulemper: A bit dated, but clean. Breakfast was adequate, but not great... coffee was old style, no choices. Shower-holder in the bathtub was very loose and silly... this is often the case in Portuguese hotels I find...

Fordele: Great location. Between the old town and the hot spring. Easy walking distance to anywhere in Cháves.

Fordele: It was very quiet
