Good location, room and food! Wish there was a jacuzzi there!!
central location It was extremely noisey!
the hotel the centre of the city evry thing is good
Being In the town centre
Lovely spacious room, warm, Flat screen TV staff lovely and friendly
Good staff, nice hotel, fine location -
We booked a suite but only got a room because they had over booked so was very disappointed about that
Work has started on building a 32 storey tower block next to the hotel. Rooms overlooking the building site are extremely noisy.
The location, staff and size of room The rooms were too hot
we stopped two nights and there was no heating in the bedrooms so the staff had to go out and buy some heaters
Lovely grounds very obliging staff Food in restaurant expensive and poor quality
My stay was limited in time arriving late on Wednesday evening and leaving early on the Thursday. The hotel however has good leisure offering which is something I always look for in a hotel, my only regret is that time did not allow me to use the facilities.
nice place and sirroundings staff friendly cigarette smoke coming from the room connected to ours
With one exception the hotel met our expectation (see below). The gardens were exceptional. The dining room initially offered only a 3 course meal menu which was said to be the Sunday evening policy. However, on complaining, a la carte was offered, which was satisfactory
staff very helpful.
Staff were quick to respond to a problem with one room and with the problem of noisy guests Conference guests behaviour and noise
The large bed Evening reception staff was rude and unhelpful
the efficiency of the staff dealing with queries we had.
Spacious room and good breakfast. Ideal for overnight stop over for the city. Small bed for a double room, flaking paint on the ceiling and no air con.
location staff was a bit scornful
Comfortable, friendly staff Little things - such as not enough milk provided with tea/coffee making facilities - for 2 people - in the bedrooms; insufficient toiletries provided - although we had our own
Room next to the lift (203 I think), meant that I had a slepless night which noise throughout the night. Room service was incorrect, asked for Clun sandwich to exclude avocado paste but arrived with. Asked for the 'soft package' for the mini bar (3 cokes, pringles & kitkat), only the beverages arrived and they were charged as full on my bill at a higher price than the package offer excluding the two items. Overall attention to detail was poor.
The beds were extremely hard.
We came in the morning in a hurry to check bags and get out to the football game. Train had been a mishap in the morning, amongst other things on our time in Yorkshire (don't judge this hotel on the area, it's a really nice place.) The check-in process was great, they took our bags no problem and gave us keys for after 2 p.m. Then they called a cab for us. After two or three calls, and about 30 minutes, a cab still hadn't shown up. I was upset, but Sandeep, one of the employees of the Mercure, went out of his way to advocate for me. He personally walked me to the nearest taxi stand. When none showed up there, he called again and insisted they get someone out there in the next five minutes in no uncertain terms, taking down the registration number of the car that was supposed to show. This time the cab did arrive. If it were for his willingness to go above and beyond and make my problem, his problem, I wouldn't have made it to the game on time. It was fantastic customer service and it turned my mood around. The point is... this is one story of how professionally run this place is, in an area where not everything is very professional. Well worth your stay.
The calm welcoming atmosphere.
Staff everywhere could not do enough for me, they looked as though they enjoyed working there. The professionalism and customer service was of a very high standard and the room was very comfortable and spotless. The location was ideal, just a short walk from the Train station and right in the heart of the city centre. No complaints
Size and comfort of rooms and the simple but quality food served in the restaurant.
The design and materials used on the ground floor and its juxtapostion to the winter gardens are spectacular and an absolute treat to sit in the champagne bar, particularly at night time with the dramatic lighting effects. The view from my room on to the Peace Gardens was stunning. Reason for choice was availability in the price range I was willing to pay. Having stayed at this hotel I am likely to make it my first choice for future stays in Sheffield. Not enough time to enjoy the spa facilities. The room rate we had obtained was excellent but the breakfast rate was not displayed anywhere we could easily find, we had to enquire at reception. Breakfast was overpriced compared to comparable alternatives available in the city centre.
The view overlooking the peace gardens were stunning, location is perfect. Too open plan, no definative line between the 2 restaurants, the bar staff were not very accommodating and it took 15 minutes to get a drink.
It was quiet - could not hear doors banging, people talking in corridors, people banging around upstairs - it is the first time I have experienced such soundproofing and it was most welcome.
central location & plenty of bars / restaurants in the courtyard adjoining location difficult to find , sat nav telling us to go down bus lane.
Location Much too noisy (outside noise) despite being on the fifth floor and no provision for parking nearby
The hotel and room facilities were everything you expect from a 4* luxury hotel. Very very good standard all round. We moved into 3 different rooms!!! Which on a 1 night stay was stressfull. The 1st room the tv did not work. Due to our short stay I asked if moving rooms would be quicker than getting the computerised tv fixed. So we were moved. The 2nd room was smaller but the tv did work. The room was small. The wradrobe did not open fully because of the bed. There cabinet that housed the tea/coffee kettle did not have a sockett or lghts inside, as the cabinet in the 1st room had. My husband complained as we were leaving for our night out. The night manager(?) amy, was very good she up garaded to a mazzanee room with complimentary breakfast. We had explained that having looked forward to this break for so long. With all the problems with the room and upset me and put a dampner on the whole weekend. But amy was great she had all our belongings moved for us, to the upgraded room, and arranged breakfast in bed! So thank you to amy. Her customer services was second to none!! I do hope this gets passed on.
central location for shops theatres nightlife spot on
Room - very clean and good amenities Nothing
the quality of the hotal, he ambience and the proximity to the city centre
Clean comfortable hotel in excellent location, particularly liked small square with choice of eateries and close proximity of city hall. Nothing comes to mind
Obviously being a new hotel the standard was high. Unfortunately the tv channels were not working but it was possible to watch a film if you wished. Room slightly small but bed very comfortable, excellent shower.
went to watch a show at city hall, which was just around corner from hotel
Radio by bedside with facility for ipod. Bed really comfortable.
The friendly reception staff
staff were very welcoming and helpful
Liked the fact that there was a triple room which adults could share. The complementary products were nice too. The tea & coffee facility in the room was great as well. The bathtub could have been a little more cleaner!
My daughter would say the breakfast, I would say it suited us exactly for what we needed, to be within walking distance of the O2 arena in comfort, Thank you
the price of the rooms wich includes breakfast and the restaurant was very good the whole weekends entertainment which is why we stayed in shefield
easy access to city centre N?A
The size and cleanliness of the bedrooms The number of times needed to swipe the key card when trying to open the bedroom door
the staff were lovely, and the bar food was lovely...at 1st u thing its expensive but the quality and portion size is well worth it...i had the chicken, bacon salad...was lovely even had croutons in it...wud defo stay again...
The staff were nicem friendly and helpful! The room was also very nice!
Helpful staff Getting a little tired now - it needs a lick of paint here and there to bring it back to it's previous economical designer chic look
It was overall a good experience! Am not so sure if it will be helpful if the parking rules at NCP can be made more relaxed for the hotel guests or even as they are explained more fully to the guests on arrival! Other than that pretty good hotel!
The starter for the meal I had there was original and exceptionally tasty no
Friendly, professional and good value for money The price of a bottle of water. Can get a full breakfast with toast and tea in London for less!
Told to check in at 3pm - no rooms available till 5.30pm - late fr our planned function.
Hotel was clean and local to town centre Room was small
the hotel staff were particularly helpful but wouldnt like to single anyone specifically. As I have only recently become a Hilton Honours member I will certainly be looking to use Hilton again with such efficient and welcoming staff. nothing particularly although the bathrooms would benefit from refurbishment with some mould and wear around the bath.
The complimentary wine, chocs, bath robes and slippers. Plus the gym facilities were amazing and the pool was lovely and warm. I felt very spoilt! The bar was very expensive! £13 for one glass of white wine!!!! The barman didn't tell us when we ordered, we just asked for a glass of white wine and then came the bill....Arggh felt a bit decieved: There were glasses on the wine menu cheaper than the one he offered.
The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and there was enough tea and coffee for more than one drink.
The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The walls in the hotel are very thin, while staying there my partner and I could hear everything that was going on in the room next to ours, including business phone calls at 4 am.
The staff were excellent, helpful and curtious. especialy a young man who dealt with us on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th July 2008. Well done. the bathroom in the room was fairly basic for such a hotel. the curtains in the room were detached from the rod which is used to close them, the safety lock on the windows was broken and the window can be fully opened.
The beds were comfortable, rooms were clean and staff was very friendly the bathroom needed refurbishing!!!
Beautiful hotel with a lot of period character that puts it above the new modern hotels. Staff didn't inform us on booking the room or checking in that there would be a disco on until 1am and it was below our bridal suite. Perhaps they weren't expecting us to want to go to sleep!
Not far from the Centre of Sheffield. A good example of Victorian architecture It was hard to locate. We rang reception & receptionist was very helpfull in giving us directions to the Hotel
Helpful staff. Location good for my purposes. Duvet too thin. Breakfast way overpriced, so I didn't eat there but got a much better breakfast elsewhere.
Difficult to find
My husband and Son stayed here and enjoyed the lovely room inparticular such good value for money achieved by booking with booking.com
The Staff were very friendly and very helpful and the room was lovely
The possibility to take a bite in your bar, no need to go to the resturante.
good size room free parking friendly staff breakfast very poor both service and quality
Great value for money good car parking could not fault it and would certainly stay again
Good service, friendly staff, lovely function room. Slept well with blackout curtains.
yes , its was overpriced , considering breakfast was not included, the room was not very nice, and the hotel was empty, so i dont see why they didnt upgrade us, we were the only guests...
the evinorment of the hotal nothing
Good reception service very helpful., comfortable bed. good breakfast choice radiator not working in room, heating by noisy electric heater only!
Breakfast is not served until 7.30 - this is too late for guests who are staying for business reasons.
Excellent new accommodation, just opened Apil 2007. Just out of Sheffield into the Peak District. Food, Service & Rooms Excellent.
The location on the edge of the city nothing
very nicely decorated rooms
The hotel is in a beautiful location and extremely welcoming and comfortable; it has a very homely feel. We felt that there could have been a little more choice for the light breakfast.
Always a pleasure to stay here when I have to go to Sheffield. Excellent position and warm comfotable rooms. Staff always helpful and polite. It would be good to change the dinner menu more regularly, as it has been the same choice for quite a while. The biscuits also seemed to have disappeared from the rooms!
Friendliness and helpfulness of all staff at all times - especially important when travelling alone. Also, I am a frequent hotel visitor (UK and overseas) and would rate this as one of the best places I've stayed recently - for service, cleanliness and value-for-money. Nothing at all.
Staff very genuine, kind and helpful. Seems to be a family run business with a nice atmosphere with all the facilities of a top class hotel. Nice food, great beer and bar not expensive either which is great. Excellent. Enjoyed being there. Will return.
Room was comfortable and clean and close to the train staition, would recomend hotel to others.
Nice room, clean, toilet/shower very clean No bath, menu a bit limited
Value for money and very handy for city centre Poor breakfast facilities ie: if you wanted just coffee and a coissant only , it still cost you as much as a carvery style meal. not everybody wants a "full .english style " .breakfast meal. cafe's aruond the corner will provide one though.
The shower cubicle was hugh and powerful. Towels and toilet paper were of very poor quality.
staff and clean near the tram which I used every day to have access to the university where I study no changes of sheets and towels every day
Clean, great shower, great room, nice staff, attractive bar, easy to find None
Good value close to event ie ponds forge pool, staff helpful First evening noisy hen party in corridor at 12.45 and again later at 2am,also smoking in corridor and smell coming into room this I dont like as I dont wish my son to have to inhale secondary smoke
very friendly staff, and it is not noisy. no heater, only AC is inside, and breakfast over charged.
Cheap, cheerful and relatively convenient. Not in the best part of the city, but you wouldn't expect that based on the brand and the price.
Room not adequately cleaned - carpet had not been efficiently vacuumed, stray human hairs on outside of bed. Breakfast whilst not expensive was of poor quality, especially cooked items.
Friendly helpful staff; excellent food; pleasant comfortable room and facilities; pleasant gardens Hard to find; directions inadequate and map poor.
I have no complaints what so ever, the hotel was just amazing, the best i have ever stayed in and location brilliant. The most helpful staff ever. Highly recommended.
Calm and tranquil environment. Lovely and quiet at night time. Beautiful new clean bathroom. Nice and warm in the room. Reception staff were not very welcoming. Limited selection of cereals and fruit for breakfast.
Great facilities. Very unfriendly, almost rude, check-in receptionist.
Everything was. Very good and the rooms and bed was excellent The bar prices were very high
Excellent menu for dinner - food was fresh, well prepared and well presented. Room well appointed and comfortable. The room was in the annex - the restaurant/bar is in the main hotel and it was necessary to go outside in the ice and snow to access the main building.
The hotel was easy to find, the staff were inconspicuous but extremely polite and helpful. The room was immaculate, warm without being overpoweringly hot and the bed exceedingly comfortable. The breakfast was of very tasty and piping hot. I have nothing but praise for this hotel it was a delight and I would happily recommend it to my friends.
The complimentary port in the rooms is a really nice touch, and breakfast was superb. When the fires were lit in the morning my room was filled with the smell of woodsmoke. Not what an asthmatic needs at that hour.
Restaurant, quiet, comfortable and excellent staff
Central location. Excellent staff. Good value for money.
Bedroom comfortable Bad service, Breakfast cold, not sufficient food for all guests
Very convenient central position, near the theatres.Quiet location. The room was small.
internet didn't work well in my room during my 2-days stay but the staffs were very nice and did try everything they can to help; my room was close to the lift and could hear the noise ocationally during the night but didn't bother too much; everything else was very good. breakfast a bit expensive in terms of what you can get although the staff was very nice
Quietness - no noise from other rooms or the hallway and accessibility to shops and transport.
Staff were very helpful with a number of small issues e.g. changing to a room with bath, storing my bag till later on the next day. Location great - very central
Helpful staff Technical problems. Digital lcd tv present (as advertised) but not connected - Small analogue tv in place as stop-gap. Clock radio advertised but not present - provided when I asked but no radio reception. Intermittent & slow Wi-Fi coverage.
location lack of parking on site
The staff were excellent. Although they were short-staffed, those that were working were outstanding. My room on the top floor was very noisy due to the lift machinery sounding as if it is on its last legs.
