Not one dining room open that children were aloud to eat! Overly expensive for what you get! $50.00 for a pot of tea!!!! Crazy. I guess they have the location that's about it!
Location, location, location The room we got was ridiciuosly old, we had to wait two hours for a normal room which indeed was a good surprise. Staff was not always attentive and responding in a timely manner. Generally, we were expecting more from a Fairmont hotel...
We loved it!
Had an awesome time at the Empress for our 20th Anniversary. The people everywhere were super helpful and friendly. The location was excellent and within walking distance to so many fun things. The afternoon tea was enjoyable but definely over priced.
High Tea at the Empress, the concierge was very helpful helping me book Helijet and bus service into and out of Victoria.
Very nice room, very friendly people!!
This historic property welcomes you in the moment you step onto the property. The immediate attendance to your every need is immediately relaxing and makes you feel wanted. The location could not be better with the entire harbor visible form the front and every floor above as you exit your elevator. The entire city downtown is vibrant and easily walkable with something for every tase and experience.t The room was a bit warm and may not have had air conditioning. We simply opened the windows and used a portable fan form the oversized closet area.
The rooms are really beautiful. The facility is under complete renovation. It wasn't as grand as you'd expect. Although the rooms are super nice, I think for the price there are a million better deals to be had. It's slightly over hyped in my opinion.
Breakfast was fantastic.
We booked a Fairmont Gold room based on another recommendation and boy was it worth it. The private lounge is spectacular, the concierges were all extraordinary (and made a big difference helping us maximize our 2 nights in Victoria) and the food and drink (including a fully-stocked honor bar) were fabulous. We felt like royalty.
Location and views are fantastic. I love these old-style character hotels. Not up to the standards of other Fairmont Hotels we've stayed in. They messed up our meal reservations and even messed up the correction, so we never did eat there. Some staff really didn't seem to know what they were doing or could even answer or questions properly and never offered to find anything our or get back to us.
Location, room quality, video selections, wireless internet, room lighting
The pool was refreshing in the summer heat. The air conditioning was over taxed that week with the extreme hot weather, they'll need to upgrade in future. As a result, we moved to new hotel for remainder of week with better air cond, king size beds and larger kitchen facilities. (Traveller's Inn - Queens Ave) City Center's pool access was still available to us. The staff was very helpful to find us this new location.
Friendly, helpful staff. No air conditioning so had to sleep with window open & it was very noisy outside - sirens & such.
Location was great and the staff was friendly Stained linens
Room was clean and the curtains were effective. Pillows were too soft.
Hotel was great, but at check in they had no record of me.
The room was very attractively furnished and the crown molding was a nice touch. plenty of space to open and set luggage. There was some confusion with our reseervation, but fortunately rooms were available.
The rooms were very nice-- clean! Wonderful staff!
Very friendly and helpful at reception. Centrally localtion. Easy to get to the waterfront.
Efficient checkin, good service, great location and very quiet for sleeping
Location is within walking distance of everything. The pool is also nice. The internet didn't work. Furthermore, the fan was loosely attachted to the ceiling
The location was excellent, and the rooms, quiet, big and confortables. Breakfast was poor.
convenient location, very clean and great services. little noise before mid night.
Have been staying for years. Best value in Victoria. Always stay and eat in the restaurants too - especially important now as drinking and driving is out and my husband cannot walk long distances. We tell our friends! The walls are a little thin and the conversation in the next room was like they were sitting in our room. The bed is a little hard - could be a better mattress. Not really what I would describe as a "deluxe room" and if I was a new client I might be disappointed. We know what to expect so we are satisfied. Affordable does not have to mean "cheap". The bedspreads and drapes look like they are from the 80's - do one floor at a time and spruce it up - solid colours are better than old flowers. The bathrooms are fine. We owned a small waterfront motel in Qualicum and it was "affordable" but the rooms looked attractive. Like you, we had a faithful clientele - keep us happy.
The proximity to the downtown area was ideal. You could park and walk anywhere. Transit was just outside the door if needed. Very sparse for room amenities. No coffee/tea, lotion, hairdryer etc in the room. Needed to ask for them, and then they would be provided. Quite small rooms even for a deluxe queen.
Good housekeeping and front desk crew, all facilities working, excellent location, good value. I didn't care for the continental breakfast, but McDonalds istwo blocks.
It had a really good location and many different options for dining and nightlife. My friend and I really liked the rooftop bar/restaurant, although the weather wasn't really appropriate for the volleyball courts.
There were three things that for sure will determine my next trip to Victoria: the central localization of the Hotel, the proximity to a nice pleasant bar and the quality / price very good for those who wants an Hotel to sleep and go! Hum, for more exigent clients, for sure furniture is a little bit used. And of course, minibar was missing, but for me it was ok !
Very inexpensive! Great Continental Breakfast ! 3 bars ! ! Right downtown ! Great Staff ! ! I've stayed 3 times, this time I had a room with 1 bed and it had a very small room. Last two times I had a room with two queens, Very large renovated rooms. I'll always get the 2 queens from now on.
We were able to leave our baggage with the front desk while we were out for the day. The workout facility was so nice to be able to use at any time during my stay.
staff was friendly and efficient, room was clean and location was good Restaurant was very slow. Parking was expensive.
The support they gave to Marathon participants the weekend we were there. Easy access to the bus terminal an downtown restaurants etc.
Reserved a room with a king bed. We were traveling from Seattle via the clipper that couldn't sail due to the marine forecast. Once we realized our trip was going to take 7 hours via buss to reach the hotel, I called to notify that we would be arriving late and was assured my room would be ready and that we would have a king bed, not 2 doubles. We arrived at the hotel and no king beds were available. But then the representative said I could upgrade for $40 more per night and beaten down by the 7 hour trip I agreed to pay the fee. Then we get the bill and it was $60 + $4.85 PST + $1.21 MRDT + $3.03 GST. I understand that the taxes are what the are but should have been quoted them and the hotel should have honored the quote made on arrival. I was offered $10 per night discount by the manager but still feel mislead. As a Marriott rewards customer for years and one who has stayed at Marriott properties all over the world, I will not be returning to this property. The maid service was also poor. The room was not vacuumed nor were the sheets ever changed on our 3 night stay. Additionally when we arrived there was left over spoiled food in the fridge. Lastly they did not replace plates and silverware in the kitchenette and when we came back to the room with takeout, we had to eat out of plastic containers. I do not recommend this property. If you are accustom to Marriott service and hospitality, you will not find it here.
Hotel was close to all Victoria attractions
Beautiful decor, excellent staff in breakfast restaurant, good parking. Our room did not get cleaned on the second day, we did get clean towels and wash clothes when we asked for them. Wish there had been a small refridgerator in room. Coffee in room was awful and powdered creamer yuck. Room service for same was pricey.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was quiet, beds very comfortable with down comforters. Pool was nice break for kids.
Clean facility, close to ferry terminal and local tourist attractions, staff was super friendly and helpful, especially the doormen, there were plenty of towels and comfortable beds. Exercise room small but with enough variety of equipment. Wish the swimming pool had been larger, not quite big enough for lap swims, wish they had provided a changing room in the pool restroom. Wish they had provided a small fridge in the room.
An excellent staff -- all were exceptionally courteous, friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and pleasant.
Price and closeness to the start and finish of the Victoria Marathon.
Very friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. The restaurants downstairs were fantastic! The bathrooms had radiant heated floors, which was a nice touch.
well it is in victoria. loved the old building, and the satff was great. our room could have used an armchair to read in, and the airconditioners need work.
Rooms have a contemporary look, well located and excellent Tapa restaurant. Space between bed and door is a little tight; however, the rest of the room is a good size.
We enjoyed our stay at the Rialto. An improvement over the old Douglas. Wonderful linens, coffee and wine bar in our rooms. the staff were friendly and helpful, making the visit a pleasant one. The proximity to shopping and restaurants made the visit an easy one. It is definitely worth a return.
Staff was great Shower drained very slow causing over an inch of water to pool in the bottom every time you used it. Bed was not comfy at all. Room was a lot smaller than i expected.
The restaurant - terrific
convenient Location, nice restaurant, good coffee shop, friendly staff, cool bar, have to pay for parking
We loved our stay at Hotel Rialto. The location is fantastic, it's in downtown Victoria and we were able to walk to pretty much everything except Butchart Gardens. Our room was clean and beautiful, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the food in the breakfast room was good. Parking was very close by in a reasonably priced garage (hourly, up to $12/day as of August 2015). I loved Victoria and plan to go back, and when I do I will stay at the Rialto!
Proximity to harbor Maid service - failed to replace washcloths and all pillows on bed
This is a well located well appointed hotel. Rooms slightly dated, but comfortable and clean. You will be centrally located to everything you want to do in Victoria.
Your beds and pillows are fantastic. At check-in, I had inquired about a complimentary upgrade. To my delight, I was informed that it had already been done. That was a lovely perk.
Very clean and really close to everything !!! Bed made too much noise , not comfortable
For a 5 star hotel with swimming pool etc there were no bath robes provided or available for going to & from the pool.
We loved this location and staff... Room was nice and comfortable with great city view.
We were upgraded from a one to two bedroom suite on the 17th floor with great views.
Not much. Staff was friendly, location was good. Furniture was nicked/had holes in it. Air conditioning was a cheap portable one you could pick up at Costco. Staff got my order wrong, still charged full price after remaking it. Bed was stiff and squeaky.
Awesome staff and I got a free upgrade. Even helped with problem with car
The room was spacious ans we were travelling with a teenage daughter and we all had our own privacy
Good Location with Friendly Staff Fitness room was too small and lacking quality and variety, Room was hot with noisy air conditioner. Conversations in hall seemed like they were always right outside door
The staff was very accomodating. The rooms felt more like business class, rather than a comfortable vacation hotel.
Awesome location and value Small room, bed was a little too hard, no breakfast/room service but there is/was a restaurant down stairs
Good hotel, nice location, excellent service and rooms, great beds. The tea maker in the room was not used much I guess and it had a rusty element, it was impossible making tea without rust in it.
Breakfast - not directly Hotel, but associated - only a "Pancake House", not offering much choice
Great suite rooms, very clean, had everything we needed.
Friendliness and help from very proffesional staff Had no reastaurant for dinner.
In the same street as relatives we were visiting. Friendly chamber maids.
The staff made us feel welcome...very friendly! Nothing
The room was comfortable The breakfast room is cramped and it's size does not relate to the number of guests it must accommodate. Some guests had to take their breakfast up to their rooms as there were no seats available.
Ideal location Lack of dining facilities
pleasant helpful staff, great location, clean rooms no
Staff was friendly and helpful. slow internet
The front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. The loft studio room we stayed in was very clean, spacious and comfortable. We wish we got a chance to cook in the suite as it was very well maintained, equipped and accessible.
Great location, great staff, nice hotel
The bed was the best I have ever slept in. The front desk personnel were friendly, interested in us, interesting people, and knowledgeable. Service in the bar was great. We loved the ambience, the art, the "feeling" of the place as well as the convenient location. I've wanted to stay at Swan's for a long time and was deterred by price, but their latest promotion made this possible. Thanks. Wish there was a bread board in the kitchen.
Rooms were very nice and the location was quite convenient to everything. I was in a queen suite with two nice tvs, refrigerator and microwave, and very comfortable beds. The walkout balcony was a bonus. Valet parking could be difficult as there was only space for a few cars at a time. The bar at the bottom level was very popular, so much so that I wasn't allowed to enter as they were at capacity. I took my business elsewhere. The balcony door didn't seal super well, so there was a bit of a draft in that area.
We had a king suite. Nice to have a living room and bedroom separate with 2 nice TVs. Bed was comfy. Room was updated and clean. The couch in the living area was small and a bit uncomfortable.
Overall a nice old hotel, but I would not say that it is a luxury stay. Breakfast was very good and included with the cost of the room, so that was actually a treat Restaurant has a dress code, so keep that in mind before you pack.
Location was in perfect walking distance to everything we wanted to see. Hotel had great character. The breakfast was delicious and the beds were very comfortable. The staff didn't provide much direction on hotel amenities.
When you advertise a "pool" it should be warm enough to swim in! My 12 and 9 year old granddaughters could not even enjoy it, way to cold, and out selection was based on the indoor pool
Staff was great. Hotel was great. Location was excellent.
Very clean. Good location.
Newly renovated and very comfy. Our room was dirty and when we told the staff they didn't do anything to accommodate or apologize for it.
The hotel was close to everything including friends that live in Victoria. Everything was a short walk. The only vending machine was out of service.
That I was able to use my debit card to pay for my accomodation on checkout
cheap price, free tea in the morning, good staff at front desk pool wasn't very clean, and sauna was out of order
Staff were great and helpful, location was good for downtown access. Pretty good value for peak time in July. I was adjacent to the Main Street and it was much quieter than I expected. WiFi was in and out. Stairs were difficult to find.
Clean, central and close to downtown areas as well as tourist areas. This is the second time I've stayed here and it also has a decent garage. There is a "fitness" facility but it is the size of a closet and the "pool" is big enough to fit a couple kids. Right on Blanshard so close to traffic and noise. The other hotel guests were rude, loud and obnoxious. Was difficult trying to get a good nights rest.
Front desk staff were helpful. Beds were comfortable.
Friendly staff, clean room, comfortable beds, great location, nice restaurant, warm pool. When booking a room I received a very difficult person on the phone. I expected the same upon arrival but received a very warm reception. The room next to the elevator was not ideal, however I wouldn't expect that at any hotel. Next time I stay I will request. The furthest rom for the elevator.
Cleanliness, helpfulness of staff; full breakfast
Great location! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room had cable TV and WiFi but no frills. Still, it was clean and in a great location and we had a wonderful time.
Location was great, staff were great Bed was rock hard. Found hair in the bed and in bathroom, didn't look very clean and stayed for 2 nights and no one came to clean the room
Booking late on Canada Day weekend doesn't leave a lot of options. Just glad to be able to get a room. Staff was helpful. Very dated and well worn. First room smelled like it was an 80's Cadillac full of smoke and air freshener trees but the staff was able to switch us to a somewhat better room even though they were booked solid.
Can't beat the location if want to be in downtown Victoria especially for price. It's pretty dirty and not everything works as expected.
we liked the location - close to all amenities.
You get free parking, a clean room in a great location. The room was a bit worn. It seemed a bit expensive for the quality of the room. I stayed here because my preferred option was fully booked. If I didn't have a car I would have used Hotwire and spent a just a little more to get a much nicer place without free parking.
The smell of the room. The noise over the night made by the towing truck.
Location to downtown Victoria. Diner was good value and good food. Smelly stale room on arrival. Tatty appearance. Drawer bases totally broken. No air con.
Central location, cleanness.
It is a lovely place that has kept its original decor and traditions. It might be considered "old world" in the present day but is much loved by the those who have been visiting for years. You hear all the time from guests about the 20 or 30 years they have been coming there. The key issue is that it is close to downtown with adequate parking and the food is good home cooking. Linens and pillows are thin, heating system is too high or too low, other guests toilets and showers are very audible. For the question below, I do recommend this hotel (and previously to the Commercial Travellers Association) but with qualifications per above.
Good location, price No air conditioning, The dresser had underwear left from a previous guest
