The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was somewhat expensive.
The location was excellent. Elevators were very very slow. Lighting in the halls was bad.
Big, comfortable double bed and spacious bathroom. Hotel in ideal position from which to explore Bordeaux. Staff efficient and friendly. Would be sensible to include kettle and tea/coffee in room as matter of course rather than by request.
Very clean, modern and comfortable. Lovely hot shower. Staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent location. No tea or coffee making facilities!
Attention to details. Service. Aircon. Central location no need to use car as tram service first class also. Staff very helpfull and pleasent.Breakfast and dining very good. All in all an excellent stay! Lighting in room could be brighter bedside reading lights could be a lot more effective if the flexi arm was longer ! Bathroom hot water did not appear to be thermostatically controlled !
Delightfull hotel with very nice rooms
The hotel is right in the city centre, very close to shopping area. The staff is very helpful in all our questions. The room is not too big so preferably a medium size luggage suits better. The traffic is very heavy, it took more than 1 hour to reach the hotel from the city outskirt!
The service is excellent there - they make you feel very welcoming - effortless and unassuming. Nothing
The location is ideal and the staff were very friendly
Excellent restaurants and cafes abd breakfast.
we were able to procure a bright room on the square, beautifully decorated with toile fabric. excellent bathrooms with wood and marble/granite. our initial room was very dark and overly done in dark faux-curtain wallpaper. but a good sized room!
Stayed at the hotel for three nights. The restaurant was superb, other than having a table full of Chinese next to us who had two interpreters running around the table explaining/translating. Still an enjoyable meal non-the-less, and chef Pascal Nibaudeau came and spoke with us which was nice - although only because he had to come and 'shmooze' the Chinese clients who I assume were carrying big bank books! Location is great, right next to the shopping area, opposite the opera house and two mins from the tourist centre and tour buses. Reception and concierge were very helpful. The room was well finished and luxurious, however it consisted of a very narrow hallway with the mini-bar, safe etc being right at the entry, and the bedroom at the other end - the oddest shaped hotel room I've stayed in. Virtually no room to place an open suitcase let alone two, which for the price we payed was not good enough. Unfortunately the hotel's gym and spa were still being constructed, which we were not advised when booking. The staff at the bar were not attentive at all, and on two occassions I had to get up and order drinks - not great when they are standing around chatting instead of servicing the customer. The couple beside us didn't hold back on their criticism! Not good enough for a 5 star hotel.
Location Deluxe room: Small & outdated Wall view Breakfast
all went clockwork - we aked to rent a car: it arrived i ntime at the right price etc . Great hotrel - great value for money !
The staff, especially the concierge managers, were helpful, pleasant, and went out of their way to assist, without asking. Very well trained and gracious. We enjoyed being on the main Place of the Grand Theatre; sitting outside on the terrace was delightful. Comp. bottles of gazeuse and plat water each day in the room was a nice touch. We were on the top floor, converted from attic rooms, so the ceiling was low and the windows were much smaller than those of the floors underneath. The lighting in the room did not compensate for this and it was impossible to read either a book or a newspaper. The drapes were luscious, but covered the small windows. Would have liked a coffee/tea tray in the room.
English speaking staff Position of hotel Very small rooms
Leaving There was nothing to like.
excellent position. curteous staff. good choice of tv channels. overall many more positives than negatives poorly designed bathroom. no shelf for toiletries. no shelf in shower for shower gel. no loo brush!
Centrally located, helpful to degree, limited english but otherwise easy enough to get to all the sights. No printer on computer
Really good value hotel in an excellent location in central Bordeaux. The rooms are a bit small, but more than adequate for a short break.
oui no hair dryer in washing clost
Breakfast with fresh product, recently renovated, clean unfriendly personnel, no luggage storage room, no toilet for customers other than the rooms
very clean lovely reception staff location very little natural light in the room
friendly staff, great location
Clean rooms. Staff helpful and friendly - helped with restaurant suggestions and bookings.
fantastic location, friendly staff, wonderful views from room, comfort of hotel. no water boiling facilities, the lift was way too small!
The location was great, very conveniant for a short visit to the city.
Location, cleanliness, bed, Furniture really looked bad and the mini bar was missing.
the location, the staff, the staircase, the balcony, the bathroom some halls smelled like cigarettes, the sandwiches in the lunch box were soggy and inedible. shame, as Bordeaux has such lovely food, esp the bread!
Good location, good service and friendly and kind staffs, the room was really nice.
Very nice stay..good breakfast, nice room and great staff.
Excellant location & good value, clean room and bathroom The room we stayed in was small and lacked air-conditioning.
Very good value for money. We thought the hotel could have been a 3 star instead of a 2. We enjoyed our welcome drink on arrival. The room was large & quiet with a view over the city. It's location is ideal for exploring the many lane ways, cafes & shops and it is only a short walk to the tram to take you to the train station. We would have preferred to have a shower screen on the bath as the water tended to go all over the floor & could be a slip risk.
Location, breakfast Room dated, needs upgrade
A very practical and well located hotel. It does what it advertises!
The low distance from the center of the city, the tranquillity of the room. The fact that there aren't the same services as in an hotel
Great location, and the grand room we had was perfect with children as it had an extra room and lots of space. This room had. Beautiful simple French decor and was very comfortable. There was no meet or greet by staff, and no reception. It is more like a b&b. There are many beautiful chateaus you can stay in which are more typical of the Bordeaux region. However you can't beat the location of this hotel, and the rooms are nice
The location was perfect for exploring the city of Bordeaux. I thought it was a bit overpriced especially since breakfast (which we did not opt for) was an addition 12 EUR / person. Breakfast should have been included for what we paid for the room.
clean, excellent bed, well located but parking and finding the location was difficult. Detailed written street directions would be helpful. Not enough toilet paper
Small B&B in the center of Bordeaux, it is composed of a small number of rooms, so it does not suffer from problems that are typical of bigger hotels. The rooms are clean and of decent size, the environment was quiet and relaxing and the staff was nice and helpful. Due to its nature there is no 24h7 reception and/or service.
The location is perfect! The owner and his wife were very friendly and helpfull. The rooms were clean and the atmosphere was warm and cosy. We were very positive about our stay in Hotel de France!
The location is excellent. Rooms/bathrooms were very small and there were quite a lot of stairs (no lift). If we had been unfit or very large people it could have been a problem. I was also disappointed that, having booked at least 4 months ahead and requested a quiet room, we were given one overlooking the street. We were able to move to another room the second night which was quieter but the bathroom was even smaller and you couldn't move in there!
The welcome, the location and the comfort of the rooms
Extremely nice and helpful front desk! Location was amazing. Very well-kept hotel. Room was very small (but very clean). Hotel was within ear shot of building construction down the street that made for a somewhat restless sleep.
This is a sweet little hotel right in the centre of town run by a wonderfully friendly couple who make it feel more like a b and b than a hotel. Unfortunately the room I had was a bit shabby and the bathroom was tiny. Really tiny. Don't expect luxury.
location was great the stuff was very pleasent the room was not very clean and there was no soap in the shower
The owners were very friendly and informative. Very good breakfast. Excellent location
Simple hotel but very tasteful and clean. Small but cosy room with good bed. Location couldn't be better. Excellent and friendly service. Given the price this hotel is an excellent if not the best choice in Bordeaux.
Welcoming classy little hotel. Well located quiet street. Clean, nice art work on the walls. Attention to detal. Pleasant breakfast room. Good value breakfast. Rooms small.
Location excellent. Staff lovely - very helpful. Nice breakfast. Relaxed atmosphere. Small rooms but fine for price and limited stay. Little noisy at night from street but typical of city centre location on a Friday night.
Nice location. Freshly squeezed Orange Juice for breakfast. The hotel has no Air Conditioning. The "Garden View" consists of roof tops and a tiny piece of the garden. Bedding at least 30 years old.
Very clean and friendly. Nice informal breakfast. Very convenient for town. Our room was on the third floor (no lift)!!!
The Hotel was quite close to the restaurants, shops & town centre Do Not Stay Here !!! We arrived at 13:30 & had to wait until 15:30 to check in. There is no air-conditioning, the room was small, no hair dryer, no safe, no elevator & the breakfast was expensive. The private parking was unavailable (the reason we chose the hotel) & parking was 10 minutes away at 29.00 EUR per night. Street parking was impossible.
Central position. It is a hotel that has been modernised but keeps its traditional French character.Provision for taking breakfast outside in the small enclosed courtyard was particularly attractive. Shared balcony to first floor bedroom, this raising questions of security.
It was very French and I thought the breakfast was reasonable value in the context of how expensive it is to eat out in France. There was no plug in the bath and you had to drag your suitcase up the stairs
Friendly staff, great location, safe, clean and well designed. A little bit noisy
Clean; Convenient location. Over-priced for a b&b; Garish room decor; tv not working; Reception open only from 07:30 to 12:00 and 17:00 to 19:30 in March. Self check-in by telephoning someone for front-door access code.
Staff consists of one, but in spite of that was very responsive as I had problems with the door to my room and was on the second floor (no elevator & slightly handicapped) so that this one staff member had to leave the reception desk each time. I appreciated their patience I did not ask as I usually do, but was disappointed there was no elevator as now I am slightly handicapped and can do stairs tho it is difficult sometimes and I can't carry my luggage, but the one person staff carried my suitcase so that was a minor problem.
Quiet location near city centre Rooms are a bit on the small side
The lady at reception was very kind and helpfull. The rooms could use a renovation, due to this it is not a real 3*. Attention the parking across the hotel closes at 20:00, gives a safe feeling but you should be on time to park the car. Perfect location.
Very helpful staff. Had a triple room for price of a single as the hotel was empty. Good door system for 24hr access, basic breakfast but cheap. Flatscreen tv with cable in room. Good location. No directions on email. Only thing I could think of!
Was centrally located, easy walking distance to trams, Information Office, Laundry and restaurants. To me was only a 1 star Hotel. The Hotel was very very old and tired plus we were bitten each night by some type of insect.
Good position very close to the center of the city, nice staff, very good in languages and very kind Wifi wasn't working, toilette broken (we changed room but also the new one had problems), no elevator, breakfast not good at all
Before we travelled I was a little concerned by a review of the hotel that I had read but my friends and I found this to be an excellent value for money and comfortable hotel. The staff were friendly and the self service breakfast was very good
high ceilings, nice wood floors, excellent location, diverse neighborhood. pretty paint color on the outside. guests should be aware that no one staffs the property on sundays, and that you have to call a number given in the window in order to get instructions for access. guests should also be aware that the gentleman who answers the phone professes not to speak english. guests should further be aware that promised wlan does not in fact work, or didn't in august 2010.
Very near to the city.
Basic, but very good value for money. Entry system with door code and prepared keys is very comfortable. Early arrival possible. Breakfast ist very basic, but at least included when booking via internet.
