Fordele: "Food was generally excellent. Entertainment good, but game choices limited, movies were censored for content."
Ulemper: "1. Boarding and un-boarding should be by bridge, especially in sub-freezing weather! What is China Southern's problem with this? Every boarding/unboarding has always been by bus, and we had to be exposed to the elements. Since we were traveling between two warm places, we were not prepared to be out in freezing weather. 2. Layover in CAN was terrible: It was too long (10 hours); Guangzhou Baiyun had NO HEAT and so was very cold, too few charging stations, and very spotty wi-fi. I could not use my credit card in at least one place. At a McDonalds (probably a knock-off actually), the cashier was quite rude, allowing native Chinese customers to cut in line in front of me and unapologetic with their "no-credit-cards" policy. Customer service personnel need better training in international relations."

Ulemper: "The leg room really need to be increased. Its a 12 hour flight and i am 6feet person and i cant stress my legs. That sucks. But everything else are good."

Ulemper: "The airline doesn’t have their airplanes right by the gate. The airplane was 25 minuets bus ride away!!! Every one waited in the rain for the bus to be full, then the bus drove off to some obscure locations- most of the riders are chinese, but I did hear someone said in English:”are we going to another airport?”... I was pretty close to the driver, and saw he didn’t slowdown for another vehicle coming through... sure enough, he slammed on the breaks really hard, the whole bus was full of standing passengers and everyone fell on top of each other... I hand held some artwork and of course it got smashed... finally we got to the airplane, everyone got off, hundreds of people were in the rain, rushing to get on the stairs up to the airplane gate, but there was only one gate and could only take one person at a time... it was a mad scene, with hundreds of people rushing, pushing, struggling in the rain and strong wind... it was close to midnight. I injured my foot on that day, my hands were full holding the carry on, artwork, I moved quite slowly... at the beginning I was hoping someone can help me to bring on my stuff because of my injury, but in a mad scenario like that, it looked pretty scary, the flight screw were busy trying to get people going in the gate... forget that... sigh, that was the most dramatic in the entire trip."

Fordele: "I liked the courteous and professional staff. The flight wasn't booked to capacity, which was nice. I am pleased that the attendants are multilingual."
Ulemper: "The flights are always delayed which causes me to have to re-purchase my connecting flights from Manila to Cebu. This is rather consistent. I appreciate the safety measures and I realize that there is nothing that can be done about weather but I am considering booking through Xiamen Airlines from now on because of the consistent nature of these occurrences."
Ulemper: "Unable to make a seat reservation on either leg of the flight. They have no idea how to run an airline. Boarding was a disaster. Waited for luggage for over an hour."

Ulemper: "Flight delayed 90 minutes. Poor communications in boarding area. No bi-lingual staff. Food consisted of a cup of yogurt, banana, and stale bread. Awful. Cabin crew was rude. Spouse's entertainment system did not work correctly."
Fordele: "I liked the extra leg room that I received with the upgraded seat due to my Skymiles affiliation. The crew far exceeded any American airliner. Food was good. Wasn't my favorite but it was a good meal considering what you would receive on other Airliners."
Ulemper: "My entertainment earphones jack was broken leaving me to play around with the earphone to get them to hear the audio of the entertainment that I was watching...until I moved my arm at which time I had to star the playing process all over again."
Fordele: "I was worried about such a long night flight with an airline that I wasn't familiar with but they were extremely polite and helpful, the seats were comfortable and a great entertainment selection. To everyone who complained about the food... It was not bad, actually better than most airplane food I have had. And I didn't hear a single person have anything negative to say about it as they polished everything off!"

Ulemper: "Delays seem to be a hallmark of this airline. I could go on for pages about the lack of communication from this airline and how they made me have to stay in a hotel because of a delay, but the less said the better. What exactly are the qualifications for being a member of the SkyTeam? On-board entertainment? I just want TIMELY, safe and comfortable flights. Frills are nice, but not necessary, and do NOT make up for not consistently delivering these priorities. Not allowing the use of cell phones in airplane mode on-board was mildly inconvenient also. Having more than one bathroom on the planes would also be appreciated."
Ulemper: "Flight staff essentially refused to answer questions, particularly in english, aboutique how long we might be delayed, whether there would be another flight, where we should wait or go for more information. I and other passengers were ignited multiple times and even had conversations abruptly ended when the staff turned away after 2 or 3 questions to which we received incomplete and evasive responses."
Fordele: "Everything went well!"
Ulemper: "Very Unorganized, unprofessionally handled 5 hrs delayed flight. Upon arrival @ AKL aero bridge takes 15-20 mins to open coz cz didn't have arrival details organized. try skipping food if you are a vegan."

Fordele: "Had a 10 hour layover in Guangzhou. In the transit area, crew informed me that they could provide complimentary accommodations. They provided roundtrip shuttle between airport and hotel (Vienna Hotel, 3 star option, although they seem to have several hotel available). Got to rest, do some work, and shower before long flight to Amsterdam. Will definitely ride with this airline again."
Fordele: "I love the vegan food that they provide me."

Ulemper: "I think the Xiamen knows how to run an airline."
Ulemper: "Chinese airlines often require you to take a bus at boarding and then carry your suitcases up large flights of steps to enter the plane - this was the case in Xiamen. This flight often is delayed and this was the case. The food was below average. WiFi is free but it blocks google and gmail."
Fordele: "The crew attention to the customer is top notch. I traveled with China Southern, Delta and Virgin Atlantic but by far Xiamen Air out performed them all."
Ulemper: "The occasion freezing of the entertainment system must be addressed. I did inform the crew and they did try their best to resolve the issue without success."

Fordele: "The Chinese people were wonderful! But I was required to pass thru security checks 3 times arriving. 3 times transiting and 3 times leaving. At customs, transit and departure. No common sense to their process only"letter of the law". For example I was taking beef jerky to my friends in Thailand but the Chinese security has a meat sniffing dog and they confiscated it as well as the girl in front of me More than $100 worth of jerky. They should have given it back at departure gate. I had to buy more in their duty free shop. Also they cancelled my flight without advising me but did get me on Thai airways later that day. Too much hassle to Transit China"

Ulemper: "Xiamen reps at KUL didn’t let me board because they said my middle name on boarding pass didn’t match with the name on Chinese transit visa. I got this Chinese transit visa just to transfer because of the airport layout and that part was also didn’t make sense. They didn’t accept my middle “Y” on the boarding pass and it was so much of hassle to argue and finally let me through. Will never fly again on Xiamen."
Ulemper: "They left my luggages at SeaTac. I am at China right now, and I don’t know when they are going send them to me. All my stuff in the luggage now I have buy everything again."
Fordele: "This leg was continuation of flight that began in Xiamen. Same plane and crew. 787 Dreamliner layout is efficient, generous legroom and recline is better than American carriers. Crew works as team, fast and courteous. Very helpful and professional, Water offered frequently, trash pick up kept cabin neat, bathrooms always clean. Passenger announcements are clear and crisp is English and Chinese."
Ulemper: "Really, no complaints. More entertainment choices would be appreciated however is not my priority."
Fordele: "Flew business class. Cabin crew was some of the most attentive I have experienced. Food was very good and nicely presented. Pillows could be better, but had two. Same with blankets. One thick and puffy, the other lighter. Nice for temperature regulation."
Ulemper: "First leg lax - Tao delayed almost 3 hours. Fortunately the 2nd leg was delayed 1.5 hours. 3rd leg on this itinerary was also delayed, I could have made the flight, but they gave my seat away. It was a bit of a Charlie Foxtrot rearranging flights and overnighting Hotel. 2.5 hours. A supervisor was needed to sort it all out. We will see if the above was bad circumstances or not. I run the same itinerary in reverse on the way home in a week."

Ulemper: "My keychain was ripped off from my baggage despite me hiding it. It was stolen by their baggage handler and the airline refused to admit liability and was protecting it Staff. Xiamenair is a corrupted airline which I will not take in the future!"

Ulemper: "Terrible paper shuffle in Shenzhen getting a require temporary visa, because the leg from Shenzhen to Xiamen was domestic. 2 hours or paper shuffle during which they took away our passports, with no guidance in English about what the heck was happening"
Fordele: "Crews, food. Also Transfer Lounge in Xiamen is a good place without charge."
Ulemper: "Boarding because we have to take bus at Xiamen airport.Also, security checks at Xiamen are very complicated."

Fordele: "I really liked the space in Business and the priority boardings in Asia. Worth every penny. Food was great. A lil slow on serving alcohol though. Very relaxing trip."

Ulemper: "I missed the connecting flight and was rerouted on a Nov 2, 8:35am China Southern flight from Guangzhou to Manila"
Fordele: "Gave me a free hotel when I was transferring in Fuzhou. All I had to pay was the taxi fare of 20kuai. The staff are extremely nice and the food from JFK to FOC was excellent. 2 full meals and a sandwich left me pretty full."
Ulemper: "It is difficult to get in touch with the English Customer service."

Ulemper: "Upon landing, there was a problem with airport customs and immigration which prevented the passengers from leaving the plane. Crew needs to be more proactive with (1) passengers getting up too early and blocking the aisle out of turn. An elder woman was trying to get her bags and exit her row and passengers from behind were not letting her collect and exit. I stopped the rude people from the back who were getting off out of turn. Instructions need to be issued, let people get off the plane in orderly fashion. and (2) crew did not inform passengers what was happening with immigration and customs holdings things up until I hit the service button a few times. Tell the passengers what is going on rather than allow tempers to heat up"

Fordele: "Excellent, friendly service on a terrific plane. More leg room than the average (American) airline for a long flight. Had to call Customer Service. They were as helpful as they could be."
Ulemper: "There was no computer check-in even for people with no bags to check. Long wait on line to check-in. Probably could use more staff at airport. TSA wait that night was also very long. Not Xiamen's fault of course."

Ulemper: "1) I asked for a window seat so I could see Hong Kong on the air. They put me in the row in front of the wing. No window! 2) Almost constant announcements about seatbelts and electronic devices, not loud enough to actually understand, but just loud enough be annoying. 3) Flight crew go down the aisle with the grace of drunken rugby players. On the return flight I sat on the aisle and got positively battered. I don't work for an airline but I can walk up and down the aisle without touching anyone! 4) The morning meal was a bottle of water, a bruised banana and a piece of bread with what smelled like dog food inside. Revolting. The meal on the way back was ... the same! Give me real food, a snack or nothing at all. It's only an hour flight. 5) On the return flight we sat at the gate for 40 minutes. No explanation or apology. 40 minutes late on a flight that was only an hour... 6) I had to ask for an arrival card as we descended. They could have been given out while we were sitting at the gate doing nothing for 40 minutes. 7) The only "entertainment" was about 15 minutes of commercials. My boss booked this flight for me. I will not fly with them again. They were so incompetent and overmatched, on a flight that was only an hour. I was embarrassed for them."
Ulemper: "The fact that I was not able to get on my flight because I didn't have a visa after I called the airline over a week before my flight to ask about it and they told me I didn't need one. They told me I would get a temporary 72 visa upon arrival in Fuzhou but when I went to check in this was not the case. Now they won't give me any money back for that flight or the one I had to buy to get home. It was their fault I was not on the flight and they won't own up to it. I will never fly with them and I will do my best to let others know that they shouldn't either"
Fordele: "The price was lower than other comparable routes and airlines."
Ulemper: "The service was just ok. The plane didn't seem very clean and it smelled like mold. The seats were not comfortable and there was little leg room."

The auto system didn’t recognize my passport with the ticket. Then I had to go to duty manager who was not helpful."

I got chicken dish which I could not consume... I wish I had a crew who could speak English so that I could communicate about the situation, but I just let go of the issue. I am planning to go fasting on my returned ride."
Ulemper: "The Air China ground staff was horrible. The return flight was late and so I missed my connection in Beijing. One of the flight attendants then blamed me for it because Kayak had booked the connecting flights too closely. I was then shuttled downstairs to ground crew who were terse, uncommunicative, and downright mean. I ended up in a hotel and can only hope this last part of my flight gets better. I’m still in beijing as I write this. And no wi fi on the domestic or international legs of the flight. Primitive."

Ulemper: "The seats in both international flights were not confortable. The audio port on plane from China didn't work well I had to keep holding it at all times to be able to hear on both ears."

Fordele: "The whole experience was unsatisfactory"
Ulemper: "They were changing my seat around. They lost my luggage. Still not found yet and has all the Christmas gifts I was bringing to my girl friend and her family. My clothes and medicines as well."
Fordele: "Enjoyed all that I’ve come to expect from air travel for the most part- in headrest entertainment (movies/games/flight track), decently good food (two full meals in the 14 hr trip), and pleasant crew with timely departure and arrival."
Ulemper: "The seat cushion is a bit hard after extended seating, with a few bumps that show themselves over time. Not terrible though, but definitely could be packed to be more comfortable for the longer hauls."

Ulemper: "They tried to screw me over with my reservation from the beginning. No notifications of any changes to my flight or anything. Missed my initial flight going home. Paid another airline to catch my transfer flight and was denied the ability to board. Had to pay for a brand new ticket which I am currently going to dispute with my creditor. They are not American friendly at all. Felt targeted the entire time."
Ulemper: "My baby (not yet 1-year) was uncomfortable on the flight and through out. When I asked one crew for help to clean up the floor she just gave me a disgust face and told me I should make the baby throw in the trash bag... I was super shocked and disappointed. I think air china really need to improve their employee training."
Fordele: "That Thai Air let us use their business lounge since we arrived 9 hours before leaving.We were bus class with them"
Ulemper: "Cannot check your bags when in transit and go to your business lounge."
Ulemper: "It took 30 minutes to take a bus from where we were parked to the terminal another 40 minutes to get through security when we finally made it to the next gate to connecting flight they had closed the gate. After all the work to get a temporary visa so we could get our bags and check back in our next flight was with Philippine airlines"
Fordele: "Getting off the plane"
Ulemper: "Two hours on the deck at Astana waiting take off in steaming humidity and not a word from the staff. They looked blankly at me when I asked to know what was going on. And then they told a bald faced lie. They failed in the service of a pre-ordered mea. in general a pathetic excuse for an airline."
Fordele: "Flight crew was attentive and food was good"
Ulemper: "If there were empty seats, potentially relocating people so you could have a little bit of elbow room?"
Ulemper: "since this portion of my flight was cancelled by air china they tried to book me on the next day but my husband decided to come meet me in beijing after getting me a hotel and driver to pick me up the night that i was stranded. i told air china not to book me on the flight the following morning that i wasn't going to take it. they never did that and ended up cancelling the entire remaining flights on air china. this was the worst experience with an airline i've ever experienced."
Ulemper: "We couldn't use out phones, all I wanted to do is listen to music I already have save to my phone. The food was horrible."
Fordele: "I did not allowd to boarding and Air China tell me that FlightNetwork did not book the ticket for me when I arrive airport."
Ulemper: "Is this Your service? Can I have a compensation as I have to buy another ticket and lost one day?"
Ulemper: "Horrible service, part of the ceiling light came off, got so hot when we were boarding - I was nervous that there was a big issue with the plane"
Ulemper: "1. Delayed 4 hours, with insufficient AC in the plane!! 2. Speaker jack was broken and could only "watch" movies."
Fordele: "Good selection of movies."
Ulemper: "Flight attendants were rude, only dry cookies for snacks on the 13h flight, really hard to have wine seems they don't want you to have any. Only with your dinner she said...food wasn't great either."
Ulemper: "Seat is small and uncomfortable Landing late Food test not good poor customer service Drink should serve more often"
Fordele: "Entertainment Comfort Amenities"
Ulemper: "Have English speaking ground staff in China"
Ulemper: "Flight was canceled. Customer service was incredibly unprofessional."
Ulemper: "Very long delay. Long wait in the plane, limited inflight entertainment for nonChineese speakers."
Fordele: "Everything worked, boarded quickly and crew served passengers efficiency. Luggage was already on the conveyor belt when I arrived."
Ulemper: "No individual movie screens."
Fordele: "Legs room ."
Ulemper: "Can't check-in on line. Cannot reserve seats which is ok if they tell up front that, nobody can check -in nor reserve seats in advance."
Fordele: "Crew was a bit nicer."
Ulemper: "China security was ridiculous but cant necessarily blame the airline. Bought water in the airport past security but was made to throw it out in a secondary check at the gate. Food was awful"
Fordele: "Over 3 hours late. Chaotic Boarding process."
Fordele: "Food terrible, baggage was damaged after flight. Security checks in Beijing are hell for a family. Entertainment system worst ever seen as a lot in Chinese. They re-use blankets! Otherwise ok."
