Very easy access, very nice streets to walk around Kyoto I liked all, it was a very good deal
Very helpful staff
Good location, comfortable room, clean and elegant. no wi-fi internet (cable only)
Stayed at 2 Mystays this trip, Tokyo & Kyoto. Good wired/wifi speed, ok bfast, cramp rooms. Equate Mystays to Starbucks, reliable but better bang for the Yen is nearby w/ a bit of research. Richmond in Yokohama was great and 4 star Tokyo deals abound.
Very good location in town; excellent quality of room for the price. Reception on 1st floor and although all lifts stop briefly there, people not registered at hotel can enter it by lift, bypassing reception. In London, say, this would be a fatal flaw (I once had my room in London entered by burglars in just such a situation). In Kyoto, however, no particular risk is incurred and the door locks were very good. Information about location was not enough to reach the hotel without asking for directions.
localization in city center, nice view over the city, lots of restaurants around, friendly staff, large room maybe only the common bath was missing...
It was a comfortably sized room. Pretty decent location. Check in staff spoke English and check in and check out was a breeze. There are plenty of restaurants near by and the Fresh Mart at the end of the block was great. It was a little hard to find at first.
It is modern, spacious, clean room and very good bathroom. Bed and pillows were excellent. They give me free coffee and free use of internet. I will definitely stay again.
Hotel location is close to Kyoto train station and the new Aeon Shopping Mall. The mattress is as firm as it gets. I had difficulty sleeping on my side or back. The hotel configuration is not suitable if your room is situated far from the elevator. It seems the elevator is at one end of hotel and our room at the opposite end. Hotel is U-shaped and we walked liked 200 meters to the elevators.
Convenient location to Tokyo station and airport bus right at the entrance to the hotel. I wish there could be more hanging hooks for towels/clothes in the bathroom. Having only one is not as functional for two people in the room.
very clean and cozy hotel, convenient location
location was good. Ceanliness was poor. Toilet was leaking on the floor and it was obvious the floor wasn't cleaned daily. We were out all day and upon returning, we saw the bathroom wasn't cleaned. Also, we got a cab to take us to a nearby laundromat and then Kyoto station. We showed them the map the hotel passes out to guests. The taxi driver said he knew how to get there. He took us the opposite direction. After driving for about 8 min, I stopped him and told him he's going the wrong way. Thank goodness for GPS and smartphones. He had one too but couldn't figure how to get us to where we wanted. He ended up taking us back to the hotel and asking us to pay him the $11 on the meter. I told him it wasn't fair since he never took us where we wanted to go. He called the porter who insisted we pay the taxi. Even though I explained the situation, the porter took the taxi's story that I never gave the address. He heard my story and took the taxi's. We told him he picked us up from the hotel too and he still said we should pay. I told him I'm not paying and that I would walk to my destination. He insisted I give my name and room number. That was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Sad...
The location can't be beat! It is right by the JR line and makes it easy for navigating the city and having a base to get back to before going out and exploring more! The staff was extremely nice and attentive and spoke relative good English. It was a bit dusty in certain places, also the bed was very hard.
Simple. Clean. Very good access to JR Station. Fast wifi connection.
The location was excellent. The staff were immaculately groomed and dressed. All staff were very polite. We especially want to praise the door-man who greeted us in such a friendly manner each day with a bow and a smile and a few words in English. The rooms were kept very well.
The rooms were spacious for Japan standards. I liked the bath and the other Anne ties offered on the property. Nothing
Very modern look with a nice open terrace. Daily happy hour (1 free drink for all the guests) is a great touch.
Good location. Convenient to train station. Very comfortable and relaxing. Good restaurants (although a bit pricey).
close to kyoto station, clean, helpfull staff can speaking english such a expensive room rate but doesn't include breakfast or dinner ?
The hotel is perfectly located within the train station. Hotel staff could not be more helpful in checking in and out.
This hotel is part of the JR hotel group the hotel has very helpful staff who speak English well. The location can't be beat. It is central and easy to go any where from this location. Rooms are quiet and well serviced.
breakfast expancive, hoor and unteasty
Great location next to station - a short walk to bus & metro. Very helpful & polite staff. Hotel decor is a little dated.
Great location Rooms are old and over-rated, furniture and carpet is dirty. This is a 3 - 3.5 star hotel, not a 4 star.
Very comfy beds and the staff were extremely helpful. The only reason I've rated the comfort as "fair" is because it was excessively hot and therefore difficult to sleep. The air-conditioning, although being able to be turned down to 18 degrees was on heat mode throughout the entire hotel. Then, when it was off in your room, the air was extremely dry. Made the stay a little uncomfortable.
Location Room size English speaking staff Very clean 3rd bed for a 3rd person is pull out couch & very hard. Although, I was very happy they even had a 3 person room, so it's not that much of a negative.
Great location! Easy access to bus lines and subways. The bathroom is quite large relative to the room size. Effective use of space. They can store your luggage for you free of charge if you arrive early. I did this and it was a huge lifesaver. No minibar, but I never use that stuff anyway.
It's fine for a three star, but you are paying for five star which it doesn't live up to. It's tricky one hostess was very helpful and another one yelled at us for canceling a cab, it was very strange. The beds are so hard, it was terrible. Also they don't have a bag room so the lobby is absolutely filled with bags because of all the tour groups. Also bar extremely overpriced. Overall it is extremely overpriced for what you get. Use that same amount and go stay in one of the traditional hotels in the cute part of town.
Very nice hotel. Highly recommended from a world traveler.
Great service that can be expected from the Okura brand. Was unexpectedly upgraded to a large room. Good location. Nothing.
Lovely staff, very helpful. Hotel seemed oriented towards the business traveller and more for the older Japanese population. That said, it was a very good, very comfortable hotel. Good value!
We loved staying here. My only complaint is that it cost additional money to use the pool, if you chose to use the pool, and more importantly, that you had to be 18 years old to use the pool at all. My wife and I were traveling with our 9-year-old daughter, so none of used the pool because our daughter was too young. This was a huge downer, because Kyoto is very hot in August and we would have welcomed being able to cool off in the pool. By contrast, the hotel we stayed at in Tokyo (The Park Hyatt) had no age restrictions on pool usage (or usage fees) and we used the pool twice a day. Other than the disappointment about the pool, the Kyoto Hotel Okura was a total delight and perfectly located and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, and the free shuttle too and from Kyoto Station was a welcome surprise. The pool cost money to use. And you need to be at least 18 to use it. This was a huge disappointment since we were traveling with our daughter, who is 9.
Excellent location spacious rooms accommodating staff Lower floor rooms needs refurbishing
Very clean, with very hospitable staff in central city location, Easy walking to lots of shopping and to subway and train stations. Many restaurants in the atrea with first class restaurants in the hotel.
location bathroom decor outdated, bedding a bit too hard
I appreciate the position and the room comfort
Location was excellent, close to making shopping area. Big room for Japanese standard. Staff not very friendly. Limited English with some staff. Concierge overwhelmed with people. Perhaps 2 at the desk would help. Very strict check out policy. Was not given a copy of my bill because I made the reservation over KAyak.
Location The air conditioner in our room was broken. They couldn't fix it and offered no compensation for it. The rooms and main hallways were stuffy and filled with smoke.
We loved almost everything about the Okura! Staff were very attentive and helpful with navigating for non-Japanese speaking guests. Facilities were in great shape. Insure dining had both local and international options. Subway access via basement connection and hotel shuttle to/from train station. So many amazing sites to see from there and tour company picked up at hotel. Much of dining, as seems common in Good hotels in Japan, is fixed price. We found two good options, Merry Island(Italian) and a noodle house that I do not remember the name of, in easy walking distance.
It is conveniently located for shopping and public transportation. Service is excellent. There is nothing I did not like about the hotel. I would love to stay again!!!
Great location, easy access to the primary tourist locations in Kyoto. The room was a bit small (by western standards), but comfortable nonetheless.
Superb quality, central location, great value You can hear street noise through the closed windows including club music until 5 in the morning.
Excellent hotel, clean, modern. Concierge was very helpful. Internet was free and reasonably fast. Location is a little away from the main sites to see but relatively close to Kyoto station. Overall, excellent place to stay. Please do not bring your kids here. The entire hotel was generally excellent for adults, business travelers, solo travelers, romantic getaways. Exception was that there was one family with possibly the only children in the hotel running/stomping around. Not appropriate. Please don't bring your children, this is not Disneyland, or at least keep your children under better control.
The Staff was very polite and helpfull.
Staff service. Room view for the amount of money paid, overpriced room service with not so high food quality
Helpful concierge desk. Very helpful indeed. Very small issue, of when we received a tiny bottle of ketchup in our room, which was opened / partially used. I'm sure it was an oversight, but it would probably offend an infrequent traveller.

I like the design of the hotel the most. Lobby area is very spacious and nice. Breakfast was wonderful. Rooms are very nicely decorated with simple zen design. The bathroom area was very well planed and nicely done. The restaurants were not up to their standards. The food was average and the price was certainly high.
Rooms nice modern and spacious. Great bathroom and shower. Staff all spoke English and extremely nice and helpful Everything
Nice lobby and facade We had booked a room for two. The bed was what is called "full" in U.S.- adequate for 1 adult to sleep comfortably. Room and bathroom were tiny (even by Japanese standards) - looks nice outside in pictures. For the price, sure there are better hotels in Kyot
Had Public Bath Had Washing Machine Helpful Staff 2nd floor was loud when activities were going on. Our room was on the 2nd floor. Staff tried to help but couldn't move us as it was booked that night, but was helpful in calming down the residents a little.
Everything in this hotel were excelent. Excelent hotel
This hotel felt almost brand new and for the price, it was an amazing value. I was staying at other value hotels in the area but when I found this hotel I thought I would give it try based on ratings. I was not disappointed - it had a feel of a medium priced hotel in the US (think Hilton or Marriott) but I paid closer to the lower range of a budget hotel. Granted, I am not going during peak season. The interiors was luxurious and everything felt new. I would stay here again, hands down. It's a bit hard to find because it's in an alley way and generally signage is hard to see anywhere in this part of Kyoto. Be prepare to have your gps on to find this spot.
Yu can not take anything inside. The dcheapest dinner is about 200 euros and the breakfast is over 2500 yens Is terribly far from everywhere
Friendly staff, decoration of the room, bike rent available, good location - not in the center still not far from it. We really liked our stay in this hotel.
The whole hotel was so fancy and My parents got satisfied by their kind service. Amenities were good, ah they supplied us twin double bed and it was also good. The room was clean and comfortable. The only problem of this hotel was the location. Not too bad but can't explain it's good. We 4 families always used taxi but solo or couple travelers may feel the taxi fee in Osaka is a little bit expensive.
The friendliness of the staff and the comfort provided. Close to the Imperial Palace. A bit faraway (15 minutes by taxi) from the centre of Kyoto and the main station.
this a hotel has a good location for explorig the city - subway stops are nearby / had free Internet access in the room it was kind of noisy during the night - hotel and airconditioning
I really like this hotel and would like to suggest the next traveller how to get to the hotel that sa soon as you arrive the subway where the hotel situated you have to use exit 1 and wait just wait there for the hotel shuttle bus this was my experience that after i get out from exit 1 i didn't have the idea where the hotel shuttle bus parked lucky me the hotel bus just arrived!
rooms big and very clean-attentive staff they gave us an old room to start with. only after complaining we were moved to a newly refurbished room. having to complain it is not a pleasant experience
The service from the restaurant and concierge staff was outstanding! No.
Very friendly and helpfull personell. Excellent restaurants. Good value for money. Nice atmosphere, the hotel is lively because it is used frequently for marriages and social meetings by local Japanese. Very limited foreign tv-channels and rockhard beds. Both seem to be common for Japanese hotels as we experienced during our trip. A bit far away from the centre, about 30 min walk or 10min by taxi.
The staff, cleanliness, location to the train station. Nothing noted
Fantastic hotel located within an easy 10min walk of Kyoto station. Very foreigner friendly with good dinning options. Ideal hotel for tourists. Our toddler was dissapointed that he couldnt go swimming, as the minimum age is 3 years. However this is an understandable safety concern. Just keep it in mind if you have a little one that enjoys the water.
Good location near the central Kyoto St. The room was comfortable and clean. They asigned us in smoking floor, and the smoking smells was terrible. We asked for a change and they assigned a room two doors beside. Next day they changed yo a better room in other floor.
The first day, they give us a room in the 5 floor, wich is for smoking people. Wen we make a complain, were change for other room in the same floor. Fortuny the nex day we change to the 8 flor, no smoking and with a beautiful japan is stile
They woke us up at 7:50 to tell us about a restaurant we asked for breakfast recommendation. The room is too small, with to storage space for a couple, a view of "the city" looks like a slam, lack of a 5-star quality, yet the service was good.
The swimming pool. The price to value was very high and the hotel billed me twice accidentally.
So much of your experience of Kyoto is where you are staying. I am so glad I changed hotels to stay at the Ritz one night. The service is outstanding, the location is incredible, and I had one of the nicest spa experiences of my whole life. Staying here will be one of my top memories of my lifetime. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Hotel Monterey Kyoto is located near Gion, the main shopping area in Kyoto, and walking distance to Maruyuma Park, Pontocho Alley, and Nishiki Market. It is a block from the Karasuma Oike station, which is only a few stops from the Kyoto Station. As a tourist, this hotel is well located, considering many of the temples are best reached via bus. Our room felt extremely clean with modern decor. Though space was tight, it was manageable for two people. Everyone we spoke to was very accommodating, polite and helpful. We never heard sounds coming from other rooms. No complaints!
