I really enjoyed the house itself, all the historic detail that has been preserved over the years. The room and bathroom were a good size. The bed was terrible, the mattress was very old and lumpy, had a squeaky bed frame and pillows were not comfortable at all. Also, the lack of a ceiling fan made the room stuffy.
Owner and her assistant were awesome. Perfect stay. Wonderful breakfast, lovely furnishings. When booking on line, cheaper rooms are in renovated section, spacious, comfortable yet modern and "sterile" If you want historic, upgrade to older sections.
Not only was this hotel situated in a very dangerous neighborhood (Tulane Ave is notorious for gangland shootings), but the property manager failed to provide basic amenities (didn't have running hot water). When I confronted her about her shortsiding, she failed to provide a refund and had a very nasty attitude towards me. I would recommend travelers to stay far away from this establishment at all costs.
This place had a bed and a roof ... The carpet was wet when we got there and it never dried out. The bathroom was disturbingly gross. The jacuzzi was a large wet ashtray.
There were beds and there was a roof. Sorta. No customer service. Lucky if you walk out WITHOUT being yelled at. Shady with your credit card. I had to dispute a charge they made without telling me. The elevator was broken and we were on the 4th floor. Maybe I'm spoiled but I usually expect more than a nod and a blank stare when I talk to someone who is supposed to be a customer service rep.
The price was better than others within the distance to the quarter. You get a little bit edgier look at the city. The outer brickwork is charming. It has potential, but looks like it needs a lot of funding to bring it up to snuff. The bed was clean and comfortable. Lights didn't work, carpet and walls are gross, no bathroom vent, never had enough towels and staff couldn't get more, 3am street brawl at the night club next door...
Dirty, room wasn't ready when we arrived at check in. Not a good part of town, half mile walk to anything. Did not apologize for any of their wrongdoings and we are still fighting them for a refund.
Absolutely nothing even remotely acceptable about this "hotel". Horrible Staff Uncomfortable beds. Cleanliness nonexistent. Shower didn't work. Windows didn't lock. Dirty everything. Too expensive for what it is. How it's still in business is beyond my friends and I. Some people gave this place more than one star??? Only reason they get one from me it's because I can't give them a negative star rating. Did i mentioned the staffs lack of professionalism? A simple attempt on being kind to the people that have contributed to the fact that you're still employed would suffice.
The lady on third shift was really nice. It was close to Superdome. First room smelled of Pot, the people next to us were smoking it heavily. The second room heater did not work and there were roaches and bugs everywhere. The elevators were broken. The place looked nothing like the pictures. Homeless guy sleeping the lounge area. This place is just and in and out for drugs and prostitution. I had two children with me. I have never stayed in something so awful. If i would have had the extra money. i would have found somewhere else to stay.
Not safe. Don't go there. Prostitution. Broken down rooms.
Worthless It was humiliation to have to stay there.
I got a non smoking room but the room smelled like cigarettes, the sheets had scorch marks, some of the outlets didn't work and no internet
The staff was very polite and professional. The location was great because we were going to Voodoo Fest which was held in City Park. Easy less than $10 cab ride. The beds were reasonably comfortable. The area was sketchy. We arrived at night and were not sure we were at the right place. The carpet did not appear to have been vacuumed. The room was very bare bones as far as decor, which is fine because it was very, very inexpensive. The shower drain was gross and clearly clogged.
You would not know it by the sort of average photos that I saw on-line, but Site 61 was better in many ways than I expected. I hadn't stayed in a hostel for many years, so was not sure what I would find for such a (compared to hotels) low price. What I found was a well-run hostel operated by a kind and personable staff, a half dozen immaculate (and seemingly brand new) bathrooms (clean toilets, showers with great water pressure and warm water) and rooms that were also clean. i also enjoyed chatting with the staff in the mornings before I headed out for my day. Love this place ! I don't love bunk beds, but who does? Just one of the things one must deal with when staying in a hostel. But as far as bunk beds go, mine was comfortable!
I enjoyed that it was setup like a hostel. Community shower and restroom with a community kitchen. Also, I enjoyed that they offer ear plugs right at the front desk. So in case that you don't want to hear your neighbors then you can use them to get some beauty rest. The air conditioning in there was not cooling very well and it was slightly I unclmfortingto have to wait to go to the restroom. Make sure you get up early to use it.
